Today it's first day from new year, but I start with left. I don't understand this game , should I play or should I stop?!I'm very disappointed , ok I understand all the team from this world lose, but they don't lose against abandoned team, they lose against other team with manager, supporters. Today I lose against an abandoned team 50% my team bigger, first leg I won 7-0, second i lose 2-1, it's normal or it's not normal? I lose 2-3 hours with this game every day, and when i play Champions league final, or Cup final , you balance the game, even if my team it's 180% and opponent 30% , the possession it's 50%-50%, why ??? If I lose today 2-1 , and now I play friendly game I win 10-0
2 season ago I lose champions league against similar opponent 7-0 , after game I play friendly game and I won
Don't balance the FINAL, if I play 45 games, and you f**k me in the final, then I will stop
Yesterday all my active friends they lose the Cup final against abandoned team, please stop this. If Friday I lose Ucl final for me it's the end , even if I put in this game a lot money I will stop.

This is what I ve been wondering as well. How can the posession be 50-50 if my players are 50% better in total % and 150% better in skills?

Happy New Year fellow manager!

Just my 2 cents here. Hopefully it could be useful to you for the final.

With quality advantage of 20%+, they would be very significant as long as you play the ‘perfect’ formation. Eg. Opponent playing 4-3W-3, and you play 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2. The chance is you should win comfortably 8-9/10 times. Those remaining 1-2 times will come up occasionally because of you having a bad roll of dice and opponent having a perfect roll.

The solution is to change formation and make earlier half-time substitutions. Subs and different duels (eg. from flanks vs side-backs to middle vs full-backs, and vice versa) will likely produce very different outcome.

Sometimes hard attacking will not work when front players lose their passing range and cannot create clear-cut chances, and as ‘dumb’ as it sounds, changing to defensive and play long ball and counter with 80% possession would work, because the chance creator would have gone from AMs to DMC.

It is more likely due to formation mismatch.

Never had I dropped to worse than 55-45 possession to my favour when I have a 20%+ team even when it is an away game.

I lost my first 3 CL finals to crap teams and then I won my last 2 back to back, I agree if you want to leave because it is unfair when you lose to bad teams.

Would be best if you could show us the formations of both teams.

From the looks of the possession ratio and total shot ratio of both teams, it seems nearly certain you were playing a formation which is perfectly countered by the opponent’s.
With such a huge difference in quality, it is impossible for your team to have less than 20 shots, unless the formation is ‘wrong’.

And as expected, your opponent scored with both shots on target and you scored 1 in 5. That is what I meant by the opponent’s roll of dice being perfect.

Should have made changes at half-time already when you were only leading by 1 goal with a 47% quality advantage, because with such advantage only a 2-3 goals lead at half-time is ‘normal’. I see that you made no changes at all. It is like you are waiting for the troll game to happen.

Don’t know how to put it better. But I smell blood when only 1 goal is scored by half-time.

Looks like a troll result. Opponent 100 percent Vs 5 out of 18. Bet your guys had mostly 6-7 rating? Did you make a sub? Sometimes that helps

Also did you have a big win before or after that loss?

For possession, I notice teams heavy on MCs tend to do better

Well I am not surprised that they have 100% shot efficiency, 81% is poor for that team, you are through 8-2 but that is besides the point, did you have a really long unbeaten streak before you lost there.

And as expected, your opponent played a ‘perfect’ counter formation there.

Your formation: 3W-1-2-3W-1
His formation: 4-1-(DM)-3M-2 (midfield with 2MC and ML - that is done on purpose in hoping to beat you. Will be explained below)

He used 4 defenders and 1 DMC to handle your AML-AMC-AMR-ST, and then 2 MCs to man-Mark your 2 MCs. That is the typical perfect +1-defender formation to handle your MC, AMs and STs.

Purposefully he uses a ML, instead of the more general extra MC (he will control the MC area if he uses. 3 MCs). The extra MC option is generally used and more ‘safe’ as you will lose more possession in midfield before any attacks could reach your front-4.

But he uses the ML to hit you on the break on the left flank, with ST on the left side, ML on the left and also DL on the left. Your 2 MCs had to mark his 2 MCs, so any time he can attack on the left, it will be his 3 vs your 2. He will create lots of chances on the left side with the man advantage, and so your quality advantage couldn’t be applied (2 man cannot mark 3 man properly, however good they are). He would still need a huge amount of luck to win, and he had the luck with 2 goals from 2 shots on goal.

Obviously you will ask what I would have done if I were you. Say in-game I use your formation and found out my opponent becomes as stated, the first thing I would do is substitute that DMC away for another MC. The reasons are: I) opponent attack is weaker than my defender, so my 3 defenders are enough to nullify their 2 STs; 2) Would rather have 3 MCs to match their 3 midfielders; And then to make his defending shape not working, I will substitute AMC with another ST, and attack via flanks. I can imagine. It would definitely upset me to give up a trophy when I have the better team. They should look into this. No point rewarding semi active players who do not expect to win and lose active players through frustration. It's bad for business.

Helsinki is absolutely spot on there about the mega luck.

That kind of mega luck does not strike very often, probably 2-3 times a season at most. Opponent will lose 8-9 times out of 10 when he has such a -47% disadvantage, so it is ‘normal’ that you could thrash him 7-nil even when you played the perfectly ‘wrong’ formation, as any of your top players on-form then can score loads.

Opponent needs to play his perfect formation, needs your players all shoot to row Z, needs his shots to go in every time on targets, and everything else to go in his favour (eg. No red cards, not conceding from freekicks or corners). Chance of this happening is very low, but can happen very occasionally when he did all his right things. His side WILL create chances because he played that ML and very possibly attack only via that left flank, so not surprised to see your shots dropped to under 20 and his shots are higher than ‘normal’.

All in all, he played the perfect game. Something like Wolves winning 3-2 against ManCity recently.

You can call it a troll, but in reality, this happens. What you can do is to make changes during games and prevent the troll from happening. :)

well an experienced manager can figure out when a troll result is coming.
When oppo scored or when see that even with a big b.p. oppo has many shots.

I can't. Still trying to figure it out. I often sub and the player I am subbing scores just before leaving the field. You can imagine my wtf reaction.

It was semifinal and I want to have all good players available for the final

In final I will play against opponent from semifinal Cup, where the result it was 6-2 and 3-0 for me , difference between team it will be 7% in my favour
2 season ago he win 7-0 against me , the difference was 5% in his favour, can wait to see how the game finish :)

My 2 cents as follows.

As we don’t have the full squads of both teams, I would assume your opponent has an average team of 116.2%, with somewhat +-10% difference among attack, midfield and defence (ie. not something like 150 attack and 80 defence).

Option 1: 4-4-2F or 4-4-2 with 1 ST dropping deeper to control more of AMC area. Flank, middle or mixed, depending on in-game player performance
Assumptions: As above, and also if you have better strikers than wingers

Option 2: 4-1DM-2-2W-1 (4-5V-1). Either pushing AML & AMR more forward to play hard attacking, or drop both deeper to play normal. Also push up DMC to help MC to control midfield. Flank

Option 3: 3-1DM-2MC-2W-1 (3-5V-2). Best for teams having both superior AMs & STs. Flank. Can change to middle if STs are free-scoring

That is unfortunate, hard luck, I never lost a super cup final although I cannot say much as I only played 2 and won both as a CL winner in successive seasons.
