Can managers get emotionally attached to players at the club?

Just say you have had that star player at the club for a number of seasons now and you have done things to keep him playing on at higher increasing levels, there comes a time where that player begins to decline with age/star rating and can't keep up with the team/level. A midfielder or striker that scores 30+ goals a season? A player that gets many 8's or 9's in ratings resulting in plenty MOTM performances. With these sort of things happening, can managers get attached to players that have done great things at the club?

I once recently sold a striker I bought as a 18 year-old in Level 2, and used plenty of tokens/rest packs developing that player, but at 29 years old and scoring over 250 goals in all competitions there does come a time when you have to move that player on, even though you would like to keep him until maybe he retires to see how far he develops in the career.

I also had a Midfielder called Yossi Benayoun in the lower levels with a free kick specialist and he was scoring more goals a season than the strikers were. When I sold him around the beginning of level 8, the new manager changed his name...

Yes, but generally I do not keep players for more than 3-5 seasons. If you think about it, rather let them end their careers as the superstars of the lower leagues rather than a benchwarmer or squad player in your team.

Thats the norm spell for a player bought if you gave it regular training and match practice, but sometimes a manager may favour the player and go that extra mile.

I know this is not quite what you are talking about, and I've only been around for 5 seasons, but I had a player I got attatched to. He was in my first season squad, but was then aged 30. He picked up some good match ratings, and I was sorry to see him retire at the end of season 3. So I cheated a little. At the start of season 4, I bought a young 22 yo, who played the same position, and re-named him after the original. So the name lives on.

ha ha yes, thats one way of doing it, I done something like that with 1 player re-naming it after the original and the 2nd form wasn't effective as the first one and was out the door within 2 seasons. This season I plan on buying a scout player and changing the name of the player to my own name and see what happens here.

Ooohh! Don't think I could do that. Would hate to think I'd have to drop myself if things didn't work out. Couldn't exactly throw the hairdryer at myself.

I play as a winger, I have good pace (or I did when I was younger), passing game was good and good with free kicks or corners, ha ha... but other than that I am weak and players could win the ball off me easily and I am not a team player... thats my main attributes when I place myself into a football management game. Only problem with top eleven most players are over 6ft in height 183+cm

How tall are you then? I'm about 175cm personally, 17 years of age. Best position would be AMC/MC, but I'm also capable of playing anywhere down the wings. I'd probably cause the database to crash if I became a T11 player. Passing game is very good, unlike you I'm a team player, but I'm horrible at shooting and similarly weak lol.
    God Bless!

Around the same height as you, I looked through my scouts and there was only 3 players with a height less than 180, they were 178,177 and 170. But since you can't see the players on the pitch on the game, I suppose it doesn't matter... You gave me a little thought, where are the 16/17 year old players in the game? I would do a probability modifier of getting more chance of 16/17 year olds as you upgrade youth facilities.

    Target shot: 90% Chance of obtaining 18 year-old, 10% of obtaining 17-year-old
    Junior Pitch: 80% Chance of obtaining 18 year-old, 20% of obtaining 17-year-old
    Mini Camp: 70% Chance of obtaining 18 year-old, 30% of obtaining 17-year-old
    Football School: 60% Chance of Obtaining 18 year-old, 30% of obtaining 17-Year Old, 10% of Obtaining 16-Year-Old
    Youth Academy: 50% Chance of Obtaining 18 year-old, 30% of obtaining 17-Year-Old, 20% of Obtaining 16-Year-Old.
