In these seasons often I have to play against a good opponent; usually I'm stronger than him about 4/5%, sometimes I win, sometimes I lost; every season I try to change my formation and tactic, because I don't like to play always with the same method.
He plays every seasons with this tactics, 4-1dmc-2amc-2aml-1

Against me he plays always in defensive mode; as already wrote, sometimes I win and sometimes not, even with the same tactic.
In your opinion which is the best counter formation and order to play against defensive?
In last game of the league results was 3-3, my formation was 3w-2dmc-2mc-1amc-2st.

Do the same and play also defensive formation
3n-dml/dmr-3n-2 works for me orders defensive rest everything normal
4-5-1 v formation is tricky if they gone use the long ball with counter so defend yourself against it (if he is online)
If he is not online you can set different orders/formation in the second half but you need to read his orders in the first half in ballpossion percentage
around 76% he is playing long and around 83% he is playing short
and look for his weaknes in his formation (bad rating of his player and the you can attack there
But it still a game sometimes you cant do nothing against it

4-4-2 is the most balanced tactic. For new players it's the best formation in my opinion. I was playing the game for 1year and I know what is going on. I personally started with 4-5-1v style (4-1-2-2aml-amr-1) , it's also very balanced.Quote:

4-3-3 doesn't work anymore and I have not 3 MC for second one as well as there are no more DML/DMR too. Someone says 4-1-4-1, but I guess it will be "awesome" show 0:0 or 1:0 for random winner. So looking for actual advice because here is a lot opponents with it on my level. Srsly V-Style is the most boring and disbalanced formation for long time, but people using it in years still thinking they are great tacticians :rolleyes:
Am not a fan of counter formation, I could use any formation to beat any formation, with some arrows and some settings. To start with, which formation are you using?

Add the red arrow(backwards) to one of your striker, and the green arrow on your two wingers(Mr&ML). Zonal marking, force counter attack on, defensive team mentality, offside trap on, high pressing. This should do it

Guy has strong attackers so i need to run a back 4, but has a completely empty middle of the pitch.
At this stage thinking of running ML/MR/DMC set back a little, then AMC and 2 ST.

I don’t believe in counter formations, I try to use my own, I use my orders, I never really change my formation, only if something is really not working, I usually changed mentality and focus passing, and sometimes change press from low to high if needed against a tough opponent.

It's a possession based play style. Played two games against equally strong team and won 5-1 and 3-0. Opposition goal came on a corner and they were left without any quality goal scoring opportunities through out both test games.

I couldn't play 3-2-3-2 with DML/DMR + 3x MCs, so tried the following against a 13 % stronger opponent in a couple of games where he attended. Won all except one draw. I suffocated the middle and defended both flank with two players each. I have tried various ways (3-5-2, 4-3-3, etc) but it is always around a 2-1 win or 1-2 loss. I do have a 10+ percentage advantage in each part.
