My opponent plays with this: 4 - 2 (DML & DMR) - 1 MC - 3 ST. Is the 4-1-2-1-2 diamond (narrow) or the 4-5-1 V a good choice to win ?

4-1-2-1-2 looks like the better option because of his defence down the wings, but your players would actually be more open with a 4-5-1V. I would go for either a flat 4-5-1, 4-3-2W-1 or 4-2-3-1.
