I have a DL/DC with free kick special, he has out-scored some of my strikers over the last 2 seasons. For a striker I think one-on-one scorer. For MC I like playmaker or dribbler, for AMC: shadow striker [works best against weaker opposition] and for DC, Aerial defender
a corner specialist is also good with free kicks and the same happens with a free kick specialist and corners
Regarding shadow strikers from my experience so far this season
first 2 are non-shadow, the last picture is the shadow. Obviously, my shadowstriker has the edge by being higher stats also.

what bothers me about this game is how a team that has lot less stars than you is always top of the league and never loses a game
Midfield
Playmaker - Useless - These sorts of players are *supposed* to take on the kinds of roles such as David Silva or any playmaker in world football. But they simply do not as their assist ratios are rubbish. They are, however, a yellow card magnet as the only thing they are good at is passing and are prone to several yellow cards and the occasional red. If you are the kind of manager who likes to play flat formations then this may be useful with short passing, but usually the fact that they don't score that much makes this ability useless. I had 2 playmakers last season and all they did was get yellow cards. This season I have 2 more playmakers and I get the same thing, they get more yellow cards then they are scoring/assisting.
I have to agree with u on this one. All 3 of my playmakers always get yellow cards or red ones sometimes.
This one is good and also a mid/fast trainer

This 2 so so.

And my shadow striker just got back from injury. A mid/fast trainer.

Dribbler SA is NOT useless, see my thread that I posted on that topic some time ago:
http://forum.topeleven.com/top-eleve...a-useless.html
We wanted to give it a try, give to ST a shadow strikers ability
this is the result:
13 games played, 24 goals!!!!

Great job dv8r!
i find defensive wall very useful for defenders. tend to clear everything
Hi,
It's shame, this thead talk about Useless/ Usefull only.
No one SA is useless when we know to use it (especially when we have a player with double positions)!
This thread would be very useful with some explanations about SA/Position and Formation!
And i think lot of people loves football/soccer, but few knows tactics (just read this thread to have proof).
Depend of your formation and tactic!!
For example with defenders :
- 3 DC : Aerial defenders or defensive wall. That depend of the opponent team, because we talking of "defenders" :
"Defensive wall" is useful against "one on one" players for example, or in case of a short passes tactic (opponent).
"Aerial defender" is usefull against "direct passes" tactic and against tall players.
- With DMR & DML + 2/3 DC :
DMx => defensive wall (because it's the role of this positions!)
DC => Aerial defenders
etc...
Before to say this SA is usefull or useless, it's important to know the "good" abilities" for the "good positions" (knowledge tactic of football).
=> Wikipedia is your true friend.
GK : just a question of propability.
"One-on-one" can happen during the season (often).
Penalties is much more rare, except in "Cups". One qualif can be win with good "penalty takers" and "Penalty stopper".
I think the answer is pretty simple!
- Penalty stopper : Only for Cups.
- One-on-one stopper : League (team-type player)
Aerial defender : DC only (and DMC if possible)
Defensive walll : DR/DL and DMR/DML only (and MR/ML in case where the player have 2 positions: DMR/MR for example)
Or... if you have only 3 DC (no DR/DL nor DMR/DML), it will be good to have 2 "aerial defenders" and 1 "defensive wall", or i prefer in this case : 0 "defensive wall" and at least 2 "aerial defender" (just my opinion).
Playmaker : MC or DMC with defense tactic. It's very interesting for a player MC/AMC (but very rare) in "MC position" (and Red arrows) in a offensive tactic.
Dribbler : AML/AMR only (it's the only ability usefull for this position and for the team),
Shadow striker : AMC only.
Strikers, same logic as GK
One-on-one scorer : Usefull for the entire Season (all competitions).
Penalty taker : Pretty usefull in "Cups" (if this player isn't the best of the team => Enter before the penalty kicks).
Free kick specialist: Others players. For this ability i prefer use DMx/Mx and keep my strikers and AMx near the goal.
Corner specialist: Others players. For this ability i prefer to use Dx/DMx and keep my strikers, AMx and Mx ready to catch/shoot the ball.
I saw many teams with only 2* have a good palmares because players have good abilities/positions.
I saw many "Big" teams 8-9* (and their managers crying on the forum) without abilities or bad abilities/positions lose against the "small" teams (with good abilities/positions).
SA is Useless ?
No!
Is it VERY usefull ?
No! ... it's useful only when abilities are adequate in fonction of positon and tactic.
In your squad, the logic say you need at least (on the field).
x1 one-on-one stopper (L Cup and CL)
x1 Penalty stopper (Cup and CL after qualif and when the match is equal before the penalties shootout).
but i'm ok to say, a one-on-one stopper is most useful for a entire season.
(at least) x1 aerial defenders : for DC.
(at most) x2 defensive wall (each side :DMR/DML or DR/DL ... in case of 3DC only : it's very dangerous to use "wall defenders" because they are "central" => faults, lost interception... is very dangerous in center field).
For only 3DC (without DMx/DL/DR), finaly i prefer to have 3 "aerial defenders" (no risk and most efficient) or no abilities at all.
x2 dribbler : AMR/AML only (if you use it of course).
Ok for an AMC but only if you use a tactic with 2 AMC at least without AMR/AML (other AMC will be "shadow striker").
For 3 AMC, i prefer use 1 "shadow striker" and 2 "dribblers".
x1 one-on-one scorer:
If you have 2 strikers (or more), 1 one-on-one is enough.
Not optional (very important)
(at least and at more) x1 shadow striker : AMC (if you have an AMC of course),
(at least and at more) x1 Playmaker : MC (or DMC only with defensive tactic)... Or Mx if you don't use MC.
(Optional) x2 corner specialists (on each side, but i don't know if the feet is really useful in T11)
(Optional) x2 free kick takers (in my experience the most complete player is a very good free kick takers, for example, no need to have a poor player with this ability).
For these 2 abilities, the most efficient and economic is : Have a player(s) in controle with his 2 feet.
(Optional but very userful when we need it.. in Cup for example) x5 Penalty takers.
cya, and have fun :)
I read the Wiki of top eleven at Training - Top Eleven Official Wiki.
The Defensive Wall SA is not useful to stop the attack (neither the short pass nor one on one) as I though. It's just for the free kick.
And basically, SA is useful in certain situations by adding another star to the player for that oppotunity..
Shadow Striker for ST is useless?
i think SA's usefullness are decreasing(or maybe reworked from time to time) every season. i remember though at level 5, i had a shadow striker (bought from scout list), and for 5 consecutive season he always been my top scorer, more than my 2 one on one scorer ST.
Useful and with more stars they still better in their skills (talking about SA, of course).
What SA should i pick for a 18yo DMC/DML fast trainer?
So your saying the players position contributes to how good the SA will be, right you are lol :S TBH the more i play this game the more i think that all the SA are just there as a cosmetic thing. I had a striker with free kick SA, he scored a **** load in season 2/3 but the higher up i got the less freekicks he scored. Ive also now got a MC with free kick SA who mainly "sails" them wide into the crowd and a MC with PK speciallist who today "ballooned" one into the crowd. Before you say its because its its MCs ive got with free kick, penalty kick SA. why let them have it if it doesnt work? also real players, from all positions can be good free kick, penalty takers.
Youve read to deep into this game, when its clear its not that sophisticated...........
I assume that with SA you mean Shadow Strikers (Shadow Attackers). Guys i would really not judge this much unless you have actually played with some. For example, i NEVER use 2 strikers. Never. I always use one and an AMR and AML. I purposely try to aquire ones with the speciality Shadow Striker. Do you know what happens? Every year they both finish with more goals than my lone striker who almost always has the most assists. You get the picture? Ball to Striker, who passes it left or right to Shadow strikers, who then either score, or don't.
If you think of it Bayern did it with Robben and Ribbery, Barcelona (when they had Villa as ST not Messi), and a lot more teams use this method. A Center Forward that comes up, gets the ball and passes it left or right. Spain (National Team) does it.
So i would ask that all of you that play with one Striker, and AML, AMR, to give this speciality a chance. If i'm wrong about anything i say, feel free to tell me ;)
Thanks for your time
Zarko
yeah..
i think special ability = no special ability
Myimpression so far:
Aerial Defender - Totally useless
Playmaker - Totally useless
Freekick Specialist - Somewhat useful
Corner Specialist - Useless

my dmc has corner SA 5 assist so far useful I use to have a penalty SA player he score 1 out of 5 useless
woaaaa, a great achievement
From my experience, aerial defenders are very useful. I have 2 of them in my team and my opponent's have scored only 3 goals so far this season from corners. Also, for me the penalty-kick specialist has resulted slightly useful as my penalty specialist scores every penalty he shoots. Dribbler has been completely useless so far. Corner specialist and free kick specialist for me have resulted useful.
A bit of an update here...
Dribbler is utter useless, shadow striker is average really....
App wouldn't let me write a long post, so dividing it up:
Aerial Defender - Totally useless
Have a 5 star (short of 6) DC with that SA. Hasn't been of any use in corners defensively or offensively.

Playmaker - Totally useless
Some people say "He is of use when there are players in front he can play to". Well, 4S (short of 5) DMC with 3 MCs in front and has done pretty much nothing so far to prove the opposite. ~15 games into the season and his "playmaking" skills are useless.

Corner Specialist - Useless
My 4S (short of 5) Corner Specialist didn't convert any corners for first 3 games, so I swapped him with my Freekick Specialist.

Freekick Specialist - Somewhat useful
My previous freekick taker had that SA and was scoring every single freekick 2 seasons ago. Now he is totally useless, so I bought a new one. 5S (short of 6) MC with good attacking skills, scores 1 of every 3 freekicks and assists 1 out of 3-4 corners (he is the top guy for crossing attribute).
As a manager that has always had 18+ SA players on a 22 Roster team for 4 winning seasons, I believe in using SA's. 'GOOD' players with a SA will out perform 'good' players without a SA at that Special Abilities, PERIOD! Your 4 star SA wall will block like a 5 star when they hit that free kick or shoot from afar, your one-on-one SA 6 star will round their goalkeeper like an 7 star player! Everyone that doubts this is always talking about "Exceptions" and not the "Rule", bad way to think in general and of course poor way to manage (they can't be bothered to hunt down transferring SA players, or spend the tokens to get that scout!).
Of course, some types of SAs are better than others for YOU, because it all depends on your playing style, formations, tactics, training focus, your opponents.. etc, etc... the list goes on. If you don't train the SA for what he was purchased for, or build the team to utilities your SAs, then they are all "JUST FOR SHOW", you will just prove the SA doubters right, when they kick your butt, and reinforce their lazy bogus management theories! It is pointless having A1 SA 'Corner takers' when your receiving strikers fear messing up their hairstyles with a header. Good players with lousy crossing, shooting and finishing are useless Free kick specialist. If you never add speed, handling, positioning to your Penalty SA Goal keep, he will SUCK!
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles" ~ Sun Tzu, Art of War. Build your team knowing what opponents you face, plan to play in 3 competition till the last few days of the season and YOU WILL. I had to played the level 7 Cup when I was level 3, I had to learn every counter and every re-counter formation, fool and hid my formation, push the clock back to mess with my opponent, utilize every aspect of every player, as my CUP opponents out-classed me everytime, every game and round was murder, and eventually at level 4 league, I won a 3rd place in a level 6 Cup competition.
Build with formation, tactics, players abilities and 'Special abilities' in mind, attack them where they are not, defend where they are.
If you have the time, money and/or the tokens choose that good player with the free-kick SA or the header specialist, he will surprise you, nothing beats watching your 4/5 star Penalty SAs, performing to perfection against their "Moon Shot" 6/7 star 'Big Name' non-SA strikers in a shoot out! Priceless! LOL. GOOD LUCK.
P.S. In Football, its better to be Lucky than Good!
so far, free kick specialist and corner specialist has been treating me very well.
playmaker, dribbler and shadow striker dont really make any difference for me.
aerial defender do help as i see from comment they keep head out clearance.
For me the most effective, is the defensive wall, 2nd, the aerial ability.
Corners, penalties, fouls SA's depend (like all SA's ) of the % of internal programming.
I was in a moment in what I had 4 free kick specialists +1 of penalties, and the 4 failed 80% fouls, and the only with SA of penalties was the only that failed in the round...
