I ran into an almost exact same situation as you did. I ran into a 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond and i used what I read was supposed to be a counter formation of the 4-5-1v. I ran with normal, down both flanks, own half, mixed, and zonal and lost pretty bad. 3-2 was the final score, but my two goals came late, so it wasn't as close of a game as it looked. My quality was 3 points better than his side also.

What was your result? Did you change formations?

Well done well I did say it would be tight, but not expected it to be that tight.

2nd match. Tried 3N-1-4-2 defensive counter (defensive, both flanks, own half, mixed passing, counter) again. It went a lot better and I won 5:0. I had a -5% possession bonus.

    Right one is me.

I really don't think there are sure wins. Once I played against an opponent who had a rating of 14 where I had a rating of 32. He had an illegal formation (like GK on the field and vice versa). I won 11:0 the first match and lost the return 0:1.

FYI that opponent I posted earlier was about 8 points weaker than me but I only played two matches with that formation so far. I like to see a few more to believe this tactics will grant a win ratio of 80-90% or so.

With that formation I would give up the stronger midfield. I could not use the lack of his flanks to my advantage. The left and right defenders could help out the center but are otherwise useless. Furthermore blue arrows on defenders wouldn't have any effect. Same as red arrows on strikers.
