Hi there. About to play in a Cup quarter final against a superior team. His average quality is 28.5 but mine is only 20.2
I've looked through this thread but can't find anything to counter his formation. He is using 4-4-1-1
    DL DC DC DR
    ML MC MC MR
    AMC
    ST

Would love all the advice you could give. Cheers

    Yes! that's correct.
As you have not given much else to go on, a few pointers.
His ST and AM players are faster than your opposites, then play normal with short passing through the flanks no O/S and force counter, put red arrows on the AML/AMR, during the game if your ST is playing to many short balls to the AM playersinstead off going for goal or your AM's are trying to tee him up all the time switch to mixed passing and put arrows on the ST. Zonal, Own half.

If your DC's and DM's are faster:
Attack him, Whole pitch pressure attack both flanks, with short passing, zonal marking and O/S no counter.
In this mode if his strikers are getting one v one with the keeper knock the O/S trap off, don't give them more than two chances.

I love the 3-2-2-2-1 formation, doesn't matter which areas are wide or narrow, because it covers simply everything, and you can easily switch your focus between the centre or the wings with the right personnel.

For this particular one, I've heard it called the butterfly, you can see he's very attack minded down the wings, DML/R and AML/R compared to a standard 4-4-2's DL/R and ML/R. Therefore, you should also attack him down the wings, as that's where his defence will be most exposed, especially on the counter.

It does depend who's better, but I'd actually suggest you play exactly the same formation as him. The midfield will be matched up perfectly, with 3 DCs against an ST on both ends of the field.
    God Bless!

Need something to beat a 3-2-2-2 of
    DL-DC-DC-DR
    MC-MC
    AML- AMR
    ST- ST.
    Thanks

I used 4-3-2-1 and won the home leg 3-0 Now I will play away leg, will probably use 4-5-1V for that as it's more defensive.

I've searched this forum (and the old one) for a formation to counter or at least to try to play well against a good 3-2-2-2-1 like the one below, but I didn't find any answers. So please, can anybody come with some ideas? Thanks in advance.

    ------DC-DC-DC------
    -DMR------------DML-
    ------MC----MC------
    -AMR------------AML-
    ----------ST----------

Now, in my particular case, I think this team plays defensive+counter all the time (35%-50% possession) and his goals in the league are scored by many different players either from wings or from the centre, even by the defenders. Except for a few couple of games when scored 4 and 6 goals, this team scored about 1-2 goals per match and having a good defence seemed enough so far cause nobody defeat it yet.
4 4 1 1 with defensive mentality ... short passing ... down both flanks ... own half ... counter attack ... no offside trap.

    Can be countered by:

    3-2-3-2:

    -------ST---ST-----
    ----MC-MC-MC---
    DML---------DMR
    ----DC-DC-DC----

    and as Dorin said

    Thanks in advance,

    Telf
    3-2-3-2

    DC-DC-DC
    DML-DMR
    MC-MC-MC
    ST-ST

this will work to much good but red arrows at DML/R
with normal mentality ... own half ... down both flanks ... mixed passing ... counter attack ... no offside trap.
