Played against this formation away in the Champions League today, really wasn't sure what to do so I just played the same formation as he did and thrashed him 1:7 (My team rating 18.3, his 14.3)

Dunno if that helps but though it worthy of mentioning.

I just beat a team with that formation (3-4-1-2) by using 3N-1-3N-2W-1. As it is very similar to 3-4-3.

Now I need some advice of my own - I'm playing a much stronger team in cup tomorrow. I beat them 3-1 at home by playing defensive, hard tackling and counter attack, but he has changed his formation since then.

What is the best formation to play defensive counter attacking vs 4-2-2-2 Hexagon? The suggested formations are 3N-1-4-2, 4-4-2 Classic, 4-5-1 V-Style. Could I play 4-1-4-1? It's similar to 4-4-2 but swaps a ST for a DMC.

Also, I've read that playing counter attack is bad vs a team with AM in, is this true? Thanks!

I would try a 3-2-2-2-1 Butterfly (3DC-DML-DMR-CM-CM-AML-AMR-ST) with zonal marking and attack over the wing,
but haven't faced that formation yet.

Hello, what formation could beat this:
    ST
    AMC-AMC
    ML-MC-MR
    DMC
    DC-DC-DC

I have only one DMC, also have DML.

I use 4-5-1 V against that formation and win all the time. If his ML and MR are scoring often then maybe it is better to put down arrows on your DL and DR

Dv8r, could you please look at my post above re playing against superior 4222 hexagon. I need to protect 2 goal lead and he is much stronger. Thanks.

I used 3-1-4-1-1 and it seemed to work. Dont ever use the butterfly as it is ineffective against 4-2-2-2 hexagon

He's light in the centre and relying on flank attacks.
Go through the centre while blocking his AM's and you should stand a good chance.
When I need a strong defensive unit that can turn into a good counter attack side I opt for:

    -----DC---↑DC↑---DC
    DMR------DMC-------DML
    ------MC--------MC
    -----------AMC
    ------------ST

Normal, through the centre, own half, Tacking? up to you, mixed passing, zonal, No off side.

Force counter would really depend on the oppositions quality, oppositions AM's can be dangerous if used, as you don't want any slip ups, I'd suggest don't use it.
Snatch a goal and go hard defending with down arrows on the two MC's leave it two your AMC and striker to stop his defenders attacking you.

My opposition played this formation in the CL final last season, he used it all season, very successfully, apart from the CL final that is.
Quality was pretty much equal maybe 1.5 in my advantage.

3-3-2-1-1 worked a treat orders I played as above but with mixed focus as I had DML/ML and DMR/MR, this formation blocks his AMC and also his flank players, all down to the game engine then who wins.
