Now I need some advice of my own - I'm playing a much stronger team in cup tomorrow. I beat them 3-1 at home by playing defensive, hard tackling and counter attack, but he has changed his formation since then.

What is the best formation to play defensive counter attacking vs 4-2-2-2 Hexagon? The suggested formations are 3N-1-4-2, 4-4-2 Classic, 4-5-1 V-Style. Could I play 4-1-4-1? It's similar to 4-4-2 but swaps a ST for a DMC.

Also, I've read that playing counter attack is bad vs a team with AM in, is this true? Thanks!
He's light in the centre and relying on flank attacks.
Go through the centre while blocking his AM's and you should stand a good chance.
When I need a strong defensive unit that can turn into a good counter attack side I opt for:

-----DC---↑DC↑---DC
DMR------DMC-------DML
------MC--------MC
-----------AMC
------------ST

Normal, through the centre, own half, Tacking? up to you, mixed passing, zonal, No off side.

Force counter would really depend on the oppositions quality, oppositions AM's can be dangerous if used, as you don't want any slip ups, I'd suggest don't use it.
Snatch a goal and go hard defending with down arrows on the two MC's leave it two your AMC and striker to stop his defenders attacking you.
