Do they gain skill points very quickly? Often training a new skill or role can limit the longevity of a player with your Team, as so many points taken away from quality can make it hard for them to keep up with the rest of your team.

If they do gain points quickly, look at their offensive skills, where they are strongest. Teach an ability that uses their best attribute.

Like if they are good at shooting, do a free kick or penalty kick.

Try them in each of the three possible spots and see where they do best, but the one did well, let him keep that spot. You could also try arrows. Their form will vary, depending on how they do against various players and formations. Midfielders are often lower rated than you'd hope for, an 8 is really good.

A 7 for a GK or an MC I consider good, since often as not they get lower. But if you were at the match you can tell if GK did his job, made saves.
