Defensive/attacking mentality changes only if someone gets more shots on goal and possession? what if you play at home, does that matter at all?

Playing at home will give you bonus possession, but won't necessarily give you more possesion overall. You have to watch the bar and which way it's going. Also look at the number of shots. If you see that he has more than you, switch into a more defensive mentality with counter attack. It should help to keep your defense strong and take advantage in spaces in his offense to score.
