    Fixture Catch-up

Celtic Rangers players step up, stand up and don't give up the fight to secure the 5-3 win needed to secure their first league title.

    Forward Look

With the target now to achieve 100 league goals this term Celtic Rangers' Midas McGonnigal looks to wield his magic touch one more time without his injured strike pairing of Ebrahimpour (32 goals/35 games - out 10 days) and new Gaston Lucero (6 goals/5 games - out 6 days). Step forward recently recovered lone striker Daniel Morris.

Over at Buffs FC, today sees the 15 man squad stretched to its limit as the schedulers throw up an away league tie followed 5 hours later by the CL final. When asked to comment manager Buffs Mad retreats to his room, turns the light out and, while down on his heels, rocks uncontrollably back and forth whimpering.

League: Buffs FC travel away to Indonesia and secure a fine 4-0 win.

Tommy Gemmell improves on his recent 5 & 6 performances when he receives a short pass to drive home from the left and open the scoring. With Buffs Mad's words about recent midfield collapses ringing in their ears the midfield of Billy Bremner and Graeme Souness try to impose themselves. Bremner is cautioned in 16 minutes as he lets the opposition know they are in a game. The opposition returns the compliment in 21 mins and also collect a yellow, but, after some delay, the ref points to the spot. Was it inside? - the £50k in the refs back pocket thinks so! Goal! Did Bremner just wink at the opposing player as he turns away from slotting home the penalty? With the home side's midfield clearly riled Souness gives another one a dig and joins Bremner on the naughty list just with 5 mins left in the half. The final action in the half sees the opposition pick up another card as Souness is upended and again they make the mistake of giving fouls away in dangerous positions. Mackay, deadball expert, makes them pay from the free-kick.

So Buffs go in 3 to the good with the smiling and joking Bremner and Souness jostled as they go off.

The second half starts with the home side flooding the midfield. But Buffs are bypassing that with some fine attacks on the flanks - particularly from Baxter on the left. An array of chances fall to Mols but, although he's working hard and finding good positions, the home defence continues to thwart his efforts. On the 65th min again he takes a neat angled pass, this time from McNeill, and sees the gap. McNeill continues his run too and as the out-rushing keeper bears down on Mols he flicks it to the side and McNeill crashes it home. Smart-thinking from Mols and his gleaming smile light lights up the stadium. If he was chocolate he'd eat himself - if he didn't I think half this stadium would.

The final 20 minutes played out in much the same way with Buffs sucking in the midfield pressure and releasing down the wings. Crosses swing in, corners are forced but there are no more goals.

Buffs Mad smiles contentedly as the players leave the pitch then bellows "Now shake it off and get ready to go again!"

    Champions League

As Buffs Mad had said "shake it off and go again".....the Buffs players emerged from the tunnel and chanted "Shaking it Boss, shaking it!" (movie reference I think)

Buffs attacked early and stormed into a lead, AC Milan then withstood everything (almost every cross, free-kick or corner was headed away by 1 of 2 DCs).

The other manager didn't watch the game but he did change his set-up from the one he had to his usual one. I had a friend supporting who I had supported in his CL final just a little while before. (A mixed day for teams on my little friends list - 3 won CL, 3 lost)

    Here's the pics.

Now I need to decide if I should cheat (and spend 7 tokens) filling my squad with worst players I can find for next seasons Cup draw. O.o

    Thank you QY, good advice.

Buffs FC end a difficult and highly competitive league campaign with a 4-0 home win. The players, while somewhat jaded, are carried along on the fans euphoria from the recent CL win.

    Season Summary in pictures:

    Season 2 Review

A mid season slump took the momentum from the Buffs in the league and they could never regain it. While all the teams stuttered and stumbled the eventual winners were the first team to obtain some degree of consistency. In the league its fair to say that Buffs lost the big games.

In summarising the league campaign Buffs Mad said "When we had to win we didn't. I take a large slice of blame there. When we hit the front my outlook changed - from striving for the lead and seeking the wins to get there, I allowed fear to enter, the fear of losing what we had. Its a lesson learned. My father once said, "if you want to wear that Celtic top in this town then you better learn to run, learn to run fast and keep running until all is safe - never look back, you might stumble.""

In the Champions League, Buffs secured the Cup at the 1st attempt undefeated scoring 55 goals in the process. Buffs Mad said "We embraced the format of the Champions League. The constant need to win drove us on. I'm very proud of our achievements. I look at that trophy and think what could be better? Another one!"

The Cup saw Buffs eliminated in the Qualifying round. A home draw and a 0-0 stalemate for most of the return meant the Buffs had to push - but went out to an 89th minute counter. Buffs Mad reflected "We went out and we went out early. There is no room for mistakes in the Cup. As long as we continue to strive for success in the Cup and make progress then I'll be happy."

    Season 3 Planning

When asked about plans for the new Season 3 Buffs Mad revealed "The Board are still considering the Budget and an announcement is imminent but it has already indicated I will remain in post next year with another review at the end of the Season. I will strengthen the playing Squad with at least 2 new Hot Prospects identified by our Scouting Network and 4 Youngsters from the open market. Its likely that 3 players will leave the Club and although 3 more will play fewer games they will remain key players - I will rotate more. The plan is to have strength in depth. We will seek quality improvements too but our key priority will be the aggregation of marginal gains - making small improvements in every area possible. Our trophy cabinet might have space but our hearts are jam-packed with hope and expectation."

"We will attack more and concede less. We won't get sidetracked, we wont look back, we're ready for the off. Steady the Buffs!"

Sorry to hear about the finish in the League but these things happen, had a similar mid season slump myself scraping wins and draws, lost us the title! Congrats on the Champoins League win though, its not an easy thing to do! And of course, good luck in season 3!

Its not a problem David. The plan was to get promoted and qualify for the Champions League. Wins or losses, trophies or not are just details on the way. The Plan is still to gain promotion, year on year, to level 4 then consider the future from there.

    And in that light......

Buffs FC Board has just announced it Budget and Forward Plan.

    Season 3 Targets

    • Mandatory: Promotion and Qualification for Season 4 Champions League is the Primary target - anything less will be failure;
    • Secondary targets include Top 2 place in the league, Cup Knockout Stage and Champions League Quarter Finals - success will be rewarded with bonus funds in S4; and
    • The Board nevertheless maintains that the dream target should always remain the Treble.

    Budget

    9m cash reserves will be carried over and available for transfer fees;
65T (agent fees) will be carried over and a further 100T will now be made available since the Board has deemed Season 2 a success; and
the Board are committed to working with sponsors in-season to deliver a further 200T+.

The Board remains committed to success and stands ready to support success on the pitch with money in the bank.

    Infrastructure

Stadium Upgrade (Stage 3) will be completed for the start of the new season - Stage 4 will begin mid-season in time for Season 4; and
Further infrastructure improvements will focus on floodlights and other projects relating to the playing surface subject to the above.

The Board are committed to provide a Stadium and related infrastructure that can support success on the pitch and deliver entertainment for those in the stands.

    Playing Squad

The playing squad is entirely a matter for the Manger. Having heard the Managers vision for the team the Board are happy to endorse any acquisitions which deliver strength in depth and a step-change in quality within the existing cash budget. It is expected that 1 marquee signing will be made soon (following the latest scouting report update) and it is noted that existing funds could support another in the same timeframe.

The Board notes that following additional investment in the Mini Camp facilities that 2 more youth players are expected to emerge in the coming days.

With 1 day to go until the new stadium was complete, I started to find the 'Building' bar annoying so I just built it.
