I saw that today for the first time in my league match ... somehow that spit got me a penalty and injured my AML. I mean, do they spit acid or something?

Truth is, those comment lines are categorized and it could've easily been what the thread author here described - just for "fun".

They usually end up spitting when they have next to no morale, it's why inactive teams do it a lot.
