Agreed. There are some who promote the 'stick by your player' doctrine, but I am a 'dump them if they don't give me what they need' sort of guy.
Love the one you're with, if they play well.
If not, get someone else and love them instead.

If your careful who you buy dump the player is not required.

I play 3-2(w)-3-2 and I'm second in the table, into the CL semi and reached the QF of the Cup. So I'd consider that I am doing very well in terms of results, however it's strange that my wingers rarely get ratings higher than 6. All other players have averages above 7.2. The wingers are all talented enough (3 x 5* and 1 x 4*) so I'm wondering if perhaps they'd be better suited in a different role.

Maybe if I played them further forward, as ML and not DML for example they'd play better. It worries me because when I don't win they have a poor rating so I wonder if I would've won had I played a different system. Furthermore if I win a game 7/8-0 they still only get a 7. Never 8 or 9.

Any suggestions? The formation is one I've always used and it's so far gained me 6 promotions in a row so is it just that in reading too much into the ratings when they're actually not that important??
If you want your WINGERS to perform well then ATTACK down both flanks with 2 wingers on each side...Then you will see the magic...
Plus in this game attacking down both flank in more profitable than through the middle since AML and AMR score a lot of goals, even higher than strikers...If you want your MCs to perform well then use 3 MC and attack through the middle...

The first extremely expensive player I've bought was an Albanian striker.

His best rating was a 5. I couldn't simply understand why but then I realized something...

    (Pro tip: Nordeus is Serbian)

So a bit of an update on the winger situation folks.

I'm STILL having the same problems. I'm still doing well in terms of results and still all of my players have excellent ratings except the wingers!! The right side player has played every game this season due to the backup guy retiring and he's been awful. So that knocks the 'give him a run of games' argument well and truly out of the water.

It's annoying because every other position has been excellent. What's more, one of the current guys in the wing position is just short of a 6th star and cost a lot of money. One of those Nordeus generated players.

I'm sick of it. So what do I do? Do I change my formation and tactics - which up to now has served me very we'll - or do I just give up trying to find a solution because ratings don't really matter???

Hi!. Yes you should play some friendlies with different formations/tactics, use arrows either attacking or defending .
Also are you motivating your team in terms of morale or bonuses? Are your players health higher than 80% before the match starts?
In my experience a DML-ML would perform better AS DML and ML-AML as ML , same on the other flank.
The really good ones and hard to find are AML-AMC and AMR-AMC those would perform better as AML and AMR due to their attacking positions. Have you noticed that when you auto assign points to a AML-AMC most of the times it goes to attack due to the nature of his native position.
I hope it helps . Cheers

Personaly I dont like that system!, My take on it is to get the best from you wide men you need them to work in tandom and to do this effectively you should play one of these formations!, 4-4-2 (DL,DC.DC,DR,ML,MC,MC,MR), 4-3-3(DL,DC,DR,ML,MC,MR) 4-1-3-2(DL,DC,DC,DR,DMC,ML,MC,MR) 3-1-4-2 DL,DC,DR,ML,MC,MC,MR), this way you have four flank players always and two working together on both sides!, play mixed passing!, defend own half, mixed phocus passing, attack, normal or hard tackling, zonal marking! play offsides and dont force counter attacks!, I like to control the middle, this way the team is balanced from back to front!, you can play 3 at the back if you want to go more attacked minded or 4 to tighten things up!, try to get the midfield flank players with dribble special ability and the CM with playmaker or freekick specialist, two strikers minimum as you always want plenty of attack in the box!, depending on your starting formation, you can take off a MC if playing 4 or DC if playing 4 and throw on a third ST for more threat if your not doing so well!. it also works the other way if your playing 4-3-3! you have got your nose infront 1-0 or 2-0 and you want to close the door at the back?, then take off the middle ST and put on a DMC or MC to go to 4-1-3-2-OR-4-4-2.
Making sure your wide players are HOT PROSPECTS or SCOUTS will get you best results!, its no good buying a 5* 4 or 9 player if he not a HOT PROSPECT as your probably getting a slow trainer and what looks like a good buy is actualy a waiste!, these simple steps can save you a headache later on with just taking a view checks before buying!.

I play with wingers too, I like to use AML/R. First off, I don't care much for ratings of ST and AML/R, they have one job, and that's to score. And that's where I select my players on when I buy a AML/R or ST. I've found that speed is their (AML/R) greatest asset so assign most points to physical and mental.

Furthermore like skidz said, if you play with AML/R or red arrow your ML/R, you need back up behind you so I always use a DR/L or DMR/L sometimes as I like to butterfly sometimes. Like you I always use focus passing on mixed. I think MC is one of the most critical positions in the game and I don't want them to get bad or avg ratings as that might have a negative impact on the result. I prefer to focus attack with arrows on wingers and sometimes an MC or DMC.
