Indeed! You could turn on "hard tackling" and see if you can hurt him a little. It might not help you go through, but if it discourages him from trying the same thing again ...

I play hard tackling by default but I don't get that many yellows/reds and my opponents only get injured in one out of three games or so, so i don't really think it makes any difference.
Hence my wish for a 'leg break' button you could use in an emergency!
