Friendlies before matches

Is there any merit in playing friendlies before competitive matches (assuming you have the kits to use)?

For example, any old wives tales about getting players In the Zone or getting bad performances out the way or other fanciful notions regarding fooling the trolls.

I noticed few days ago that my league leader always plays a friendly before a league game so was wondering if anyone else does this?

Its a belief that PLAYING PRACTICE MATCHES (not friendlies) increases you chance of your winning but there is no proof to it...But ASK THE DEVELOPERS is getting released next week and there is a question regarding this...Lets hope we will find the answer to this question then...
