    Another idea I had is to hire some very poor players at the end of the season to lower your average quality, and then sell them or sack them at the beginning of the season. It would cost a couple of tokens though.

    As far as we know the game only takes in count quality of your best 14 players.

    You'd have to hire quite a few low-grade players. The Cup draw looks at your best 14 players only, so you'd probably need minimum 11 3*s to drop your average much.
