What determines a Captain

I'm sure this thread may already exist but I can't find it (Ok admittedly I'm too lazy to even click beyond the 3rd page of threads...)

Just wondering as I have everything else kinds sorted but I seem to have my right-back as Captain as a)he's the eldest b) he was my best defender last season. What am I missing...what are the stats that make a club captain? or is it irrelevant.....pick who you want?

First i put the oldest players from my academy (but they never play at the first squad) then i pick the oldest from transfers.
And i don't think this function has any boost in your game.

In the ask the Devs they did answer that it does have some effect but no one knows what!
I have my best old guy DMC as my Captain, since that is a key position on my team.. and in the list both my GK's so there will always be a Captain on the pitch.

I see, I'll have to change it then as since I have advanced a few leagues he's no longer in my first team....interesting, does it not default a player to captain/vice captain if your chosen one is benched?

For many seasons i have played without captain, it is Mainly cosmetic.

I tend to change captain order whenever my team under-performs or I lose a game, I normally base captain order based on Physical stats (Best to last) so they are mentally prepared to boost team morale when called for.

I believe it does make some difference to player performance but its also my superstition ingame lol

Same, I prioritise my Captains according to the Ave Phys & Mental stat unless 1 has a significantly higher creativty stat, in which case the arm-band is his.

Whether something makes a difference or not I treat it as if it does....just in case.

It is cosmetic unless the other players sees him marked as (C) or something like that. I currently have no captain since Season 1.

I just put my highest rated player as a Captain. I doubt it makes a difference though...
