Does player form ever improve?

Got an 18 year old high 5 star keeper who is expensive but has thus far put in 4 or 5 out of 10 performances. Will this ever improve?

This is performance of my former striker in 6 seasons. As you can see, he played poorly in his first season, but in next 2 seasons he got rating 6 only once. Then he had poor 4th season, but he again played for 7 and 8 in 5th season.

how are result`s going ? if winning and defence getting good rating it means they are doing their job meaning Gk can sit with fans as he`s doing bugger all the higher rating means he`s doing some work and defence are not playing so well

From my experience, some players start slowly on joining new team. The poor form may start since he was at previous team. Usually I do not use a new player in a hurry. If he played badly, I will only play him in friendly matches until the form improve. It is quite often their performance will turn around in next season. Maybe due to changing in team formation, or role assignment like free kick. Certainly, some players' performance never improve before I sold him.

BTW, I usually has less patience for goalkeepers, because they cannot be replaced with players in other positions.

If it was an older player - I would've said "sell him. If he had 5-6 chances that's more then enough".

But young 18-20 players can be fickle… just like in life :

Sometimes they would calm down after a few matches on The bench - and step up to the play .

Some start performing after a year when then the got older and the control went from their hormones to their brains .

Some , like my GK last season are like a flickering light bulb when they're 18 - my goodness, that season was a rollercoaster because of him. He's form was like: 9-3-8-6-5…
But this year he stabled at a solid 7.

Some try their best but can't really do anything extraordinary - they'll always have a rating of 6. Season after season and they'll never quite make it.

And some are just unbelievably sh*tty , I mean - it almost look like they're trying to destroy the team from within… and even after one season they'll get 3-5 ratings.
