Insane formation, how is this formation not illegal!?

Hello everyone,

I my league there's a team with an insane formation that seems to be working even thought it looks like an illegal formation:

--- --- AMC --- --
ML --- MC --- MR
DML -- --- -- DMR
--- --- DC --- ----

Yes, only 1 defender. What is even more strange is that this team is being successful... 20 matches, 14W-2D-4L, 4th place.
What the hell??

not true...exactly. they still give 80-20, but they have relaxed most formations to not be illegal.

80/20 poscessions are usually teams with lots of players OOP now

Yeah, they have Out of Position penalties, which vary in severity depending on what you do, but as far as i know, as long as your guys are in position, you wont get 80/20ed

If it's a yellow OOP icon, the poscession penalty will be lesser, but if it's red, then a heavier penalty will apply.

I have to admit after a couple of weeks of playing I find the weird formations that are successful to be a little bit stupid. One guy in my league plays

He wins almost every game 4-0 or 5-0 with only one centre back. In fact the only game he lost was against me. He has the 2nd highest rated team in the league and as mine is the highest, I think his highly attacking style meant when playing a team with a higher quality, he couldn't keep goals out. I've just tried his style against another team (3 strikers with 1 DC, DL and DR) and I won 4-0...

In a real game you'd get hammered with 1 CB and the 3 strikers would probably trip over each other trying to score.

Maybe 80/20 could be the maximum penalty ratio possible in the game. For a team to achieve 20% poscession, they should have a team with all players OOP, poor player quality as well as opening more loopholes in the formation.
