I've only lost 3 games all season - all against teams playing 4-4-2 and with bang average squads. I don't employ that formation. I play 4-3-1-2 and upto now I'm walking the league, but seemingly have little answer against 4-4-2.

in bahasa please
I'd say your formation is still fine if you put blue arrows on the STs and red arrows on wing backs when facing 442, but it also depend on team orders.
There are so many counters against 442 anyway...
I don't use wingbacks. Nor was that what I asked.
I've been using 442 with AML/AMR aka Hexagon for most seasons, I find it very effective and better for scoring.
1st are the players individually, in Q. terms, and how they are proggrammed of well, 2nd the formation.
Strong formations, that for me mean stable formations are formations with 4 defenses, and in ma ranking are the 4-3-3, 4-3-1-2, and of course, I dont use it, but 4-4-2 is one strong formation.
By my viewpoint 4 defenders + lot of people in the other side of the field to create how more posible options in attack is te key.
And till here my opinion lol.
I prefer 4-5-1 V-Style
Its a natural counter to 4-4-2 and a few other often used formations
Also its quickly changed to a more attacking 4-2-2-2 Hexagon with a single sub.
There is no "best" formation but personally it's the one that makes me spending more time to think about my formation and to examine mine and oppo players.

I don't have a lot of variation as I tend to be a 4-4-2 lover as well, but when up against a strong team that can hurt me that plays 4-4-2, I've used a 4-1-4-1 to good effect.
I don't think there is an ideal formation. Many managers have plans to counter 4-4-2. But I think 4-4-2 is a balanced formation and I recommend to use this if a manager want to take a rest and will not log in to play for a period.
I like using 4-4-2 because it used to be easy to avoid illegal formation. Besides, the formation can be maintained in balance even if I made some in match changes. Some usual variations includes pushing wings forward, using DMC/AMC instead of ST/MC/DC, moving the DL or DR to DC, etc.
