July Fourth Win The Champions League

In this final it became a nerve racking affair between July Fourth and Lech Poznan, July Fourth started off the stronger as expected and created many chances and it took 15 minutes for Papaleo to win the ball in a dangerous area and strike it past the keeper to give us the lead, We then added to the advantage by Phongkerd heading in from a Petrovic corner... Anyone that thought July Fourth were going to win the final comfortably were mistaken when Lewandowski scored just before HT to get Lech Poznan back in the final and they equalised 5 minutes from the restart when Tulis headed a corner in Peszko, But July Fourth were then fighting for the lead again, Silva had created many chances and a bit like Alexis Sanchez he was trying to do too much for the team, Veutro eventually got the ball on a half volley and striked it past the keeper to give July Fourth the lead back, But in the 80th minute Lech Poznan had one last opportunity to perhaps send this one into extra-time with Peszko having a shot poorly dealt with by Lennox and Vittalone had to clear it off the line, The next few attacks in the match were from July Fourth with Silva and Gutierrez having efforts blocked on goal, Possibly us trying to run down the clock and eventually we were able to hear the final whistle from the referee to give us our 25th Champions League title.

It's been 10 seasons and 280 days since we last saw these words in the forum...

July Fourth Have Won The TREBLE!!!

Yes folks, It's REALLY been that long... BUT we have done it again!!!

Olympique Rouen finally break through, Win 1st Champions League title

It was a dramatic, tense affair that included a 2nd min goal, an 88th min goal, each GK saving an on target free kick in dramatic fashion, a gut wrenching leg break, and a severe ankle strain.

The game was less than 90 seconds on when AM Mauro Ezen opened up the scoring on a quick counter. It was a sweet moment for Ezen who had been in somewhat of a funk without a goal or assist in his last 8 matches coming into the final. But the day would turn ugly for the prolific Brazilian as a clear foul from Italian CM Antonio Moretto on the planted leg of Ezen saw the leg snap in half. He was carted off the field to a standing ovation a few mins later.

The ensuing free kick was whipped into the box by CM Segreste and found the head of Rouen's homegrown sensation Omar Cardenas for his career best 26th goal of the season making the score 2-0.

The 2nd half began with S Leon coming out with a 3 ST formation and pushing hard, the tactic paid off 5 mins into the 2nd half when Suheri Safri scored a sensational goal to get his club back into the match at 2-1 down.

Rouen settled things down a bit with their own adjustments and their defense clamped down hard on every attack by the underdogs while the possession advantage dwindled from the 67% in the first half to under 60% when the game ended.

In the 68th min S Leon CB Billy Boyack committed a reckless foul and for the 2nd time in the game a Rouen player had to be carted off the field. This time the blow came to the teams captain and all time leading scorer Mikkel Sorensen, who tests later revealed suffered a ankle strain.

The continued brutal assault by the underdogs did not go unnoticed by OR and the team was galvanized by their stars injury. They spent the remaining 20+ mins in all out attack mode firing shot after shot and keeping their opponents pinned in their own half. Rouen finally got the end product they so deserved in the 88th min as Cardenas unselfishly pulled back and made a beautiful pass to Sebastian Rocha who easily buried it in the back of the net to become the 4th player this season to score at least 25 goals in all competitions for Les coqs gaulois.

In what seemed like an instant the final whistle had blown and the confetti began falling as the players and staff all poured onto the field to celebrate their first ever Champions League title. Both injured players were able to come back onto the field for the ceremony although Mauro Ezen was clearly in pain as he was wheeled up the ramp to join his teammates. Mikkel Sorensen set aside his crutches momentarily to lift the trophy over his head first before passing it on for the rest of the lads to get in on the celebration.

While the club had been very successful in their first 3 seasons there have been some critics who were not shy to point to the teams recent exits before the quarterfinals of the T11 cup and the two CL finals failures as signs that the manager could not win against squads of equal or greater caliber to his own side. They also pointed out that while the club won the league again they failed to win in either match against the 2nd place side who were the only other club with enough quality to challenge Rouen this season and did so earning a 2-2 road draw early on and then became the first team in over 2 years to beat Rouen in league play in a 4-2 beating that also was the most goals conceded against any opponent during that stretch.

This result, while a moment of joy for the club and their supporters will do little to stem the critics. This game was ugly and was up for grabs until the 88th min goal. The clubs two star strikers were both shut down and it was due to the prowess of the other attacking players that the club scored at all. Each of the 3 attacking mids who started the game scored a goal and it was a brilliantly placed free kick into the box from CM Christian Segreste that allowed Cardenas to score what would be the game winner after Ezen had his leg broken in the first half.

The club president and manager David Grizzle had this to say, "It isn't an accident that those four guys came up big for us. They have been doing it all year. We have had six players all year who are a threat to score in any game and when one or two have an off day the others pick up the slack. The four midfield players have combined for something like 96 goals this season between them, I don't see how this can be seen as anything but a strength for the club."

This is an excellent article and congratulations on your first CL title as well, This kinda wants to make me return to writing those match reports myself just like the good old days of the forum.

    Tiny update my end.

Rhondda Rovers win 7-0 away to Jerez Industrial and I forgot to watch the match. Tomorrow sees us at home to the only team to score and beat me in the League, the Jack Twats.

    Season 65-screenshot_2015-05-01-17-37-08.jpg

Worryingly, despite the weak opposition, my midfield was terrible bar one player (one 6, one 5 and my MR even had a 4). I was eyeing up at least one ML and one MR anyway, but am tempted to look for two MR's if possible as my main one at present is very inconsistent.

    League Titles - 3
    Cup Winners - 1
    Champions League Winners - 1

Excellent, either you are a sports journalist or should be one. Great talent to write that from the T11 'commentary'.

    Clinched the double today.

League: Clinched first place on the backs of a 10:0 victory. 2nd place team, Ordu52 whom sent me a friend request (I accepted) a couple weeks back. Although entering the game 6 points back and with us facing the last place squad, KAN GUCU, he still showed up to support my opponent. Strangely, the only two times he supported my opponent was when we faced this cellar dwelling KAN GUCU team, so I don't know what he was thinking.

Champions: Won 1:0, with a Wesley Sneijder goal just before halftime. It was only our 3rd clean-sheet of the tournament, but it couldn't have come in a bigger situation. Oh, and my goalkeeper got another "5" rating, despite 3 saves and the clean sheet.

Next up: Attempt for park the bus achievement. Then, decision time about whether or not to start releasing/selling players to get a better cup draw.

AEPRE FC won the league title in style

AEPRE FC won their 2nd league title, an undefeated league title, as well as the manager, who comes out 1st for the first time aganist a strong full scout team, and his 3rd double in any of his teams. With a 3-1 victory home aganist Real Madrid, which the final game of the season will be scheduled at 11:11 if they are played at home.

This is probably the last game of their AEPRE FC career for Markus van Zwolle, if he is not going to sit as a reserve keeper, as well as Frederick Aboagye, and possibly Cyril Abouret, who could not made it to 6* in time.

In the first half, AEPRE FC and Real Madrid also had an even amount of opportunities to score, but AEPRE FC comes out with a 1-0 advantage at half-time on the very last minute, when Real Madrid's DMC Cristian Venegas blocked Pavel Sochocki's attempt, it deflected behind, and a corner awarded. Shaun Hughes opens the kick to Alfie Deyes, who put the team in the lead.

In the 74' Oscar runs through the defense with just only one remaining, and of course, the keeper Kevin Main. His shot were blocked by Main but still deflected behind. The 2nd goal comes from this corner in a carbon-copied fashion to the first goal.

Frederic Soumare replaces Hughes in the 85', which immediately, Real Madrid finally breaks through, when Manrique Ugarte dashed through the defense, and scores.

The goal difference in this match were restored to 2 goals when Joscef Bajnok capitalized Real's AMC David Webb's mistake by counter-attacking on the flank, crossed the ball to Oscar, who is in front of the goal, and scores the final goal of the season.

AEPRE FC will then play WePe FC in the traditional end-of-season friendly at 18:30.

    Match Highlights

Man of the Match Hughes (8), but Fischer receives 9 rating.
