In the United States we like making up holidays for other countries....

We celebrated "St. Patrick's Day" for generations before the Irish finally decided that if wealthy, drunk Americans wanted to show up on their shores and spend money.... that all of a sudden Paddy's Day isn't so bad!

And we LOVE Cinco de Mayo here..... oh yeah.... Mexican independence and all that....

Of course May 5 actually represents the Battle of Puebla which eventually led to the ouster of Maximilian I.... puppet leader under Napoleon.... look at Mexico and you see Spanish influence in the language.... German influence in the layout of the cities and of course... the music..... look for French influence the closest you find is that Maxi I.... being an avid beer drinker, brought his Austrian brewers with him.... and today the VAST majority of beer in Mexico is Vienna Lager....

But yeah.... Mexico hates the French....
