and looking at the players in his squad afterwards he actually had no need to buy him... would have just been a sub/res for him to sell!

He was level 4 and his starting strikers were 45 and 49 plus 39 on the bench!

The player i was buying was (for me) 5* and 34 so i could train him up and get that star back up for next season!

So annoying to waste hard earned tokens to someone like!...P!ssed off..

Good lesson.. If a guy has an insanely good team, don't even compete with them for a player. They are either going to let you have him for 1 or 2 tokens, or you're never getting him.

Unless your staying down then it`s not worth buying at this time of season and save for 1st day of new season if the market is a bit slow with buying players

Maybe one of his was hurt/ Has bad ratings? You cannot tell.

Going for players near their next star is asking for a bidding war. Really, even this late in the season you have to be careful. He could be not promoting, too, so that player would be attractive.

I don't mind buying a guy near a 6th star late in the season if he's a young and I can power train him up.

Why wait until next season for a player that may or may not come if the player you want is right there, just 1 star less? That is a correctable problem as long as you have the greens.

The funny thing is.. yesterday I picked up 3 players all 5* including at 18yo worth 2.5mil for 4 tokens.. and 1 token on a experienced keeper and 5 on another guy. Just got burnt today.

That's pretty normal. Sometimes you get lucky, other times it's just not your day. It really is random, sometimes you can tell if your opponent is clearly a token buyer and should be avoided, other times you can't.
My team for example doesn't look that good, but i'd gladly take you for 15 or 20 tokens if I really want the guy. Others with a similar team will fold after a couple rounds.

Generally I would agree, would just point out that I'm level 2 about to go to level 3 and I've found some GREAT fast trainers that other teams are dumping. I assume these are low level managers that haven't learned how to train yet and don't realize the value of the player they have or the value of having a lower quality team prior to the start of the next season. I've been able to sell low value, slow trainers that are much higher quality that wouldn't have survived my increase in level and swap them out for fast trainers of much lower quality that I'm quickly preparing for next season, greatly improving the value of my team.
