Palace Terriers report...
Terriers are first to complete their matches today, so a brief resume of the past three days:
Two matches a day are putting a strain on the squad, so a lot of rotation and in-game tactical substitution has reduced the outlay of blue and green packs.
Monday was a case in point, with a mere 3½ hours between the Champions League Group match and the day's League outing. Away at their closest rivals for the Group lead, Terriers pressed the 'annihilate' button and won 6-1, to confirm their qualification from the Group and 1st place in the Group. Goal scorers were Jones, Moran, Sinegal, Hall and two from van der Plas. The League match was a 4-0 stroll at home, right-back Roemgens scoring a hat-trick of free-kicks, and van der Plas adding the fourth.
Tuesday saw an early 2nd Leg Cup match at home, and a 3-3 draw (6-4 on aggregate) gave progression to the next round. Masegela, Perez and Gorrono were the on-target players. The late League away trip was a bit closer and more eventful, a 2-1 win continuing the climb up the table, but the loss of Kadlec for the next match after a booking and Moran for 6 days after an ACL tear injury has hit the team hard. Van der Plas kept up his recent scoring record by equalising the home teams opener, and defensive left-winger Schmitt added the second. Striker Nicky Jones became the latest addition to the Terriers '50 Club' in the Cup match:
Today saw another two closely scheduled matches, a Champions League away trip and win 4-0, Roemgens, van der Plas (2) and Masegela scoring, followed 3¼ hours later by a home League game to inaugurate the new seating addition to the stadium. The visitors were defeated 3-0, striker Jones scoring two and Doda netting a penalty.
