I use 4-1(DMC)-3(ML MC MR)-1(AMC)-1 against teams with an AMC. Or 4-4-1-1 if they haven't. My AMC is a beast so loves playing against a 4-4-2 especially when I play short passing and through the middle.

I'm just saying what works best for me. I have a very strong team and I find an AMC is generally good against a 4-4-2.
Maybe you could play to strengths of your team and adjust tactics accordingly. Often good tactics will counter a 4-4-2.

There is no need for any great tactics for this game. It's a rock, paper, scissors game. When the game does not give benefits to ppl. actually training their team and being online for the games.
I would advice that you use this tactic (sorry for the ugly screen dump, I am on the phone):
-Normal style, low pressure, mixed passes and focus. No offside trap.
It's new and unorthodox so people have no real counter for it. Very easy to find players for it (CMs and DCs are all over). But you should focus on getting a good right wing back for it. With that you can match much better teams pretty well and you will win a lot of games big.
Good luck and please do not hesitate to ask questions if you have any!
