There are give away commentaries within the game to tell you if the OS trap is working or not.
"Long clearance up field by X player XX is through on goal, scores, not working, 'player XXX stands his ground wins the ball' had to make the challenge he was the last man'
I use it when in attack mode but only if my defenders and DM players are faster than his.
If they are not then I just put down arrows on at least on DC and play without it.

Having said that the comments are repeated so often it is not 100% that any tactic is working or not. Random comments, random results, random injuries. LOL!
