413w11 or 413w2 is the best counter for 442 this season

It's the formation that gives everyone a tough time... The butterfly, 4-1-2-1-2 ND and 4-5-1v have been unreliable in countering the 4-4-2. Yes, it works against weaker teams but against evenly matched teams it's not the case.

I've done a lot of testing and observing and 4-4-2 does lose but the results are very random and there is no trend in the formations that can beat it.

I also reckon that depending on HOW you play the 4-4-2, it becomes very hard to beat...As when I've used the 4-4-2, it sucks. So orders does come into play.

Any experiences vs the 4-4-2 that you'd like to share?
The result are random, may be caused 4-4-2 classic are standard formation...so its depends on your command to counter it...corect me if im wrong :-D

Any formations with 3 MC work it seems. I lost to 4-4-2 using

    DR--DC--DC--DL
    ----MC---MC----
    AMR--------AML
    ----ST---ST----

    But won with

    DR--DC--DC--DL
    --MC--MC--MC--
    AMR--------AML
    --------ST-------

    Defensive, thru the middle

Just an observation here, but when you get on and say that a certain formation that you used beat a 4-4-2, it means nothing if you do not post the strength of both teams involved in the match. It does not matter a bit which formation you use. If you are much stronger than the other team, you will win regardless of formation. I played a 4-4-2 early this season using 3w-1-3w-1-2 and drew 1-1. He was a (31) level 4 and I was a (24) Level 3. I have since tightened the gap between the quality of our teams. He is (33) and I am (29). Tomorrow is the rematch at my home and I will be going with 4-1-3N-1-1. One thing I have seen with his team is that any poor result, draw or loss, that he had, he faced a team that was setup to play through the middle.

    3-2-2-2-1 Butterfly, really works.
    I hav tested 4-5-1v(my favourite) , 4-3-2w-1, 4-1-4-1 they don't help!
But they work with a weaker opponents, also 3N-4-1-2.

I started with the AMC a little to the right side of center to crowd out his top midfielder. It did work to do that but he wasn't doing anything offensively until I put him back to Center 20 minutes into the game (right behind the striker). I absolutely DOMINATED the match. Orders: Defensive, through the middle, own half, Hard Tackling (and no cards!), short passing and zonal marking. Motivated! Up arrows on AMC Down arrow on the two DCs and Down arrow on the right MC to help out the DMC on Defense.
