Its not the best as you can only attack down the flanks, which is where most of his cover is and especially on your right it would leave you exposed to a counter through his AML.
Playing the V would also put your rear flanks under pressure if he gains control but you would dominate MF and have a more balanced attack which would stop his DR/DL getting forward.
I think this is the way to go.
Looking at his quality you far out weigh him in all areas.
I'd attack him forcing his AML and MF players as far back into his own half, your DC's look like they should be able to out run his attack so play the O/S
Attacking, Whole pitch. Both Flanks, Normal tackling, Short passing and Zonal, No counter, O/S yes.
How do I counter 4-4-1-1?
Opponent's team has defenders that is 4 star but relatively weaker midfield and attack.
I have a Cup match against a much stronger side, 37.9 vs 31.7.
He's playing:
DL----DC----DC----DR
----------DM----------
------MC----MC-------
----ST-----ST-----ST---
How can I counter this and with what instructions?
How to counter 4-2-3-1 ?
----------ST---------
AML------AMC------AMR
-----MC-------MC-----
DL-----DC------DC----DR
and what tatic should i use ? thanks :)
Hi i need your opinon on this match.
My opponent play this at home with total 7% possession
DL DC DC DR
ML MC MR
AMC
ST ST
I played this
ST
AML AMR
MC
DML DMC DMR
DC DC DC with def, mixed pass, att through flanks, normal tackle n counter att
Our score drew at 2-2
how could i have done to do better? whats the minimum defs to guard 1xAMC n 2xST?
is it better to have 3x DC n 1xDMC or 2xDL/DR n 2xDC to guard against them.
PLease assist, yr help are greatly appreciated. tks mate
you are playing against too much attacking formation so you should use this too much attacking to counter him rightly so you can use this formation
----------------ST---------------
AML------------------------AMR

normal mentality ... down both flanks ... own half ... mixed passing ... counter attack ... no offside trap.
and i'm sure you will win if your squad rating is near your opponent rating

Hi guys,
I've searched this forum (and the old one) for a formation to counter or at least to try to play well against a good 3-2-2-2-1 like the one below, but I didn't find any answers. So please, can anybody come with some ideas? Thanks in advance.
------DC-DC-DC------
-DMR------------DML-
------MC----MC------
-AMR------------AML-
----------ST----------
Now, in my particular case, I think this team plays defensive+counter all the time (35%-50% possession) and his goals in the league are scored by many different players either from wings or from the centre, even by the defenders. Except for a few couple of games when scored 4 and 6 goals, this team scored about 1-2 goals per match and having a good defence seemed enough so far cause nobody defeat it yet.
How do I counter this formation? o.o
DL DC DC DR
ML MC MC
AMC AMR

How can I beat this team? (Cup 1/4)
I was thinking to play defensive (5-3-2)
This is my team.

Thanks in advance,

That is exactly what you do not want to do, he is going to attack you, while you can hit him on the counter, he has plenty of cover with a flat back four. He could well have red arrows on the two MC's adding to the problem.
IMO you need to push him back forcing his AM players to do some defending, which in turn releases pressure and allows you to do a bit more damage with your own players, he has no DM cover so this is where to exploit him.
I would probably go with the butterfly against him, 3DC's covering his striker and the centre AMC, DML/DMR blocking his AML/AMR, your two MC's against his, leaving you with AML/AMR and a ST against his back four.
Plenty of time to sort orders, while you go and do some checking on where his goals have come from, who's showing form in the cup, also try to see any formations he's lost to recently and by how much.
Most important for the orders. speed of his striker and AM players against your DC's and DM players. and vice versa with your own, ST and AM players.
Is there any way to counter a 3-2-3-2 while fitting in my best player C. Petersen who is the AMR/AMC?
I am aware that 3-2-3-2 does counter a 4-3-2-1 (which I play) but not sure if it matters as my team is a lot better.

V formation but with 3 DC's, use the extra man either as ST or AMC. 5-0 at least
Like this?

Need a big win here, league title could go down to goal difference!
So play like this

Any specific orders?
4-0 win, thanks :)
Hi there. About to play in a Cup quarter final against a superior team. His average quality is 28.5 but mine is only 20.2
I've looked through this thread but can't find anything to counter his formation. He is using 4-4-1-1
DL DC DC DR
ML MC MC MR
AMC
ST
Would love all the advice you could give. Cheers
Yes! that's correct.
As you have not given much else to go on, a few pointers.
His ST and AM players are faster than your opposites, then play normal with short passing through the flanks no O/S and force counter, put red arrows on the AML/AMR, during the game if your ST is playing to many short balls to the AM playersinstead off going for goal or your AM's are trying to tee him up all the time switch to mixed passing and put arrows on the ST. Zonal, Own half.
If your DC's and DM's are faster:
Attack him, Whole pitch pressure attack both flanks, with short passing, zonal marking and O/S no counter.
In this mode if his strikers are getting one v one with the keeper knock the O/S trap off, don't give them more than two chances.
I love the 3-2-2-2-1 formation, doesn't matter which areas are wide or narrow, because it covers simply everything, and you can easily switch your focus between the centre or the wings with the right personnel.
For this particular one, I've heard it called the butterfly, you can see he's very attack minded down the wings, DML/R and AML/R compared to a standard 4-4-2's DL/R and ML/R. Therefore, you should also attack him down the wings, as that's where his defence will be most exposed, especially on the counter.
It does depend who's better, but I'd actually suggest you play exactly the same formation as him. The midfield will be matched up perfectly, with 3 DCs against an ST on both ends of the field.
Need something to beat a 3-2-2-2 of
DL-DC-DC-DR
MC-MC
AML- AMR
ST- ST.
Thanks
