    Looks like:
    = = ST = =
    = = AMC = =
    = MC = MC =
    DML = = = DMR
    DL DC = DC DR

    Please tell me how this formation works best so I can understand it and how to counter it best.
    Whilst it is an unusual formation it's difficult to come up with a counter without knowing his players roles.
    Having a DML/DMR sat right in front of the DL/DR is a strange one unless they have ML/MR position also, which would then suggest he is playing defensive and Counter attack with red arrows on the DM players.
    Post a screen shot of his squad, that will also tell us if this is his preferred formation or the one with his best players in their correct positions.

    3-1-4-1-1 may work with more info.

    This is his preferred formation, which actually is giving him very good results with number of scores each game. Constant attacks - goals from back defenders, MCs and ST each game. I guess he is using whole pitch pressing style because game is intense, huge possession, so probably he backed his AMC. He makes a lot of counter attacks, but I doubt he is using other than Attacking/hard attacking mentality.

    I even tried it on my own guessing how it should work and it gave me a decent result.

    I'd agree.
    I'd treat his formation as 4-4-2 as his DML is also ML/AML, his DMR is also MR, his weakness is when he attacks, he leaves maybe only his two DC's as i think He has probably red arrows on DR/DL also.

    You seem to know what order are needed, I'd just suggest.
    3N DC's-1DMC-MR/AMR--MC--MC--ML/AML--AMC--ST

    You could go 3 wide at the back personally I'm not keen on it when there is a AMC lurking around,I prefer the 3 narrow with down arrows on the centre DC.

    I'd start defensive and see how possession and shots are going, with counter on, maybe try long passing through the centre to start see if you can catch him with his pants down.
