The topic Table of Counter Formations v2.0 - Which formation to use? has three suggestions for countering a 4-4-2:

    3N-4-1-2, 4-5-1 V-Style, 3N-2-2-2-1 Butterfly

I've personally had success against the 4-4-2 using a 4-4D-2 (DMC-ML-MR-AMC) in cases where the quality of the other team was within 2-3 points of my own team.

Wondering if I took the time to type out that fancy formation? Nah, check out my python script!

I find 4-4-2 flat my hardest formation to beat but this season playing 4-3w-3 has got me an underfeated record so far!, 5W 1D.
    x 17 x 5 x 1

    Double winners x 5 , Treble x 1 ...Perfect league wins 26/26 x 1 (L8).
Every comment I make on this forum is based on my own experiences and so should be taken as such!.

Agreed, Skidz advised me weeks back to use 4-3w-3 against 4-4-2 and so far its great.

This season 3-5-2 flat or narrow diamond works perfectly well for me...

I will use this thread instead making a new one. Later in the night got a match (cl final) against a sort of 4-4-2. The opponent formation is 4-2(mc-mc)-2(aml+amr)-2st. Should i use your recommendation for 4-3(ml-mc-mr)-3 or ND or 4-5-1? Our stats are almost the same so the right formation will be the key for success.

    4-5-1 V-Style for Ryanwong.
Normal, both flanks, DR/L and DMC motivated, mixed pass and finally Counter Attack on.
    Try this.

Joretonnyc, that formation is the 4-2-2-2 Hexagone, the 4-5-1V-Style also could rule
