Go Leo makes it three on the trot

Go Leo makes it three on the trot

Go Leo climbed above Fenerbache the league after an emphatic 4-2 win at their rival's ground, their third consecutive league win. The victory is a timely boost ahead of their Champions' League knock-out round match with Bandit FC early tomorrow morning.

However they still remain five points off the leaders and just a point ahead of Fenerbache.

Quentin Anani produced a masterclass display, scoring two in each half, after a Joe Pepper had opened the scoring at the fourth minute.

The home side had tried to claw back into the game at 2-1 and threatened to make a game out of it when they scored a second to make it 3-2, but Greek winger Stergios Kolokas ensured all three points for the visitors with a goal six minutes from time.

After the match the Boss was relieved to have grabbed a valuable three points. "It was an amazing match. I'm glad we ended up on the winning side."

"Quentin (Anani) was superb for us tonight."

Go Leo next focus their attention to Nikolla FC later tonight at Lion's Way before they travel to Bandit FC for the Champions' League first leg knockout match.

The way thread starter makes the coverage of his team and details on the players seems he is a sport journalist or something like that.

    Here we go again!

    Latest News

    Here we go again!

Go Leo secured third place and a Champion's League spot at the end of Level 5, Season 5. They finished 3 points behind second placed Xaitan and 12 points off League winners Ude.

It was another barren season for Go Leo as they search for their first ever silverware.

Despite being top scorers in the league with 91 goals scored, they let in a dissapointing 32 goals, which is the highest conceded among the top four finishers.

Sebastien Djidji tipped strike partner Peter Tracz by a single goal with 18 league goals to finish as the club's top league goalscorer.

For next season, the Boss is hopefull for a good run in the Champions League and Cup which they had exited prematurely for the past two seasons. For Level 6 Season 6, Go Leo has been grouped together with Xaitan, Ude & Olimpic in Group A of the Champions League.

"It will be a tough Champions League campaign this season. It is not an ideal scenario when we have Ude & Xaitan grouped together in the same group."

"We have strengthened our squad for the upcoming season and hopefully the players that we bring in will help us improve on last season's achievement."

"A few players have retired and some have not performed last season. They are very good players but maybe this is not the club for them. I am sure they will do well elsewhere."

At the low-key event here at Lion's Way, the Boss introduced seven new signings including two new exciting strikers, Englishman Gareth Nicholas and Swede Daniel Linskog.

Outstanding goalkeepy Illynias Fyntanis has retired from professional football and Hungarian David Laszlo has been brought in to fight for the no 1 jersey with Giuseppe Scagnamiglio.

Others brought in for the upcoming season are experienced defenders Dominic Metzner, Daniel Scaloni, attacking midfielders Alexandru Banu and Muhammed Ozen.

The Boss also announced the sale of talented Ahmad Wiyono, who had a very disappointing season 5.

Asked whether there will be any further signings, the Boss indicated that another arrival could be on the cards.

"We lack some experience in midfield, so we may want to shop around for a player who could fit into the system. Ahmad Wiyono failed to build on this first season performances and I decided we could not take any further gamble on him."

    Limp Lions?

Go Leo opened their League and Champions' League campaign in unconvincing manner yesterday, narrowly winning 3-2 in the league against a much weaker Anto FC and then going down 2-0 to Xaitan in the Champions' League.

A 90th minute Muhammed Ozen strike saved Leo the blushes in the early league match with the game tied at 2-2. The Lion's back four looked fragile despite Daniel Callsen-Bracker and defensive partner Dominik Metzner putting in a good shift.

The opening Champions' League loss makes it much more difficult to navigate the group as the other two rivals are equally matched which makes it a very open group. Again, the defence were at fault for both goals against Xaitan and the Boss would need to rethink of how to plug the holes.

"Regretably, we have let in four goals in two macthes, hardly a defence that could win a championship. We have trimmed our squad this season but I now see that it could work against us this season."

Go Leo played a few new faces last night, namely defender Dominik Metzner, midfielders Muhammad Ozen, Manuel Ferrari & striker Adrian Kaczmarek.

    Lions in the pits

    Lions in the pits

The league is only a 3 games old but Go Leo may have to push the panic button early.

Last night, they suffered back-to-back defeats in the league and Champions' League to local rivals Jalak Lenteng and Ude.

It was their second consecutive defeat in the Champions' League and qualification from the group now looks more like a hopeful punt than an achievable target if they were to maintain this type of form.

The Boss admitted that they have made it difficult for themselves and had only themselves to blame.

"Losing to three league rivals in two different competitions is unacceptable. If our form remains like this the whole season we will end up struggling to finish top four."

A late defensive lapse saw Jalak Lenteng score a late winner at Lion's Way in their league encounter. But in truth, it was a poor overall performance from the hosts.

In the Champions' League, Ude capitalised on an early dismissal for Go Leo's attacking midfielder Alexandru Banu to register a 1-2 win.

"I had a go at our midfield as they were not dominating the middle of the park like they used to."

Also getting criticism not only from the manager but from the stands were their four strikers who have failed to put away the numerous chances against quality oppositions.

The normally prolific Sebastien Djidji have 2 league goals to his name but both came against more weaker opponents.

The other three new addition upfront have been woeful and the fans are not impressed.

The Boss hinted at getting new players in to help with their dip in form and also suggested some underperforming stars might be dropped or even sold.

    The Accidental Duo

    Latest News

    The Accidental Duo

There were concerns at Go Leo when top striker Sebastien Djidji suffered an injury just before a run of key league matches, but however, it turned out to be a blessing.

In the absense of Djidji, Hector Bala came in to partner Jaime Pereira upfront and that new partnership returned 13 goals in 6 matches. That run also saw Bala bring his tally to 8, surpassing Djidji's league haul of 7 goals.

Djidji has since recovered from injury but it is unlikely that the Boss will want to break the Pereira-Bala partnership, which has helped Go Leo rise to second behind Xaitan, but separated only by goal difference.

It is beginning to look more likely that the showdown against Xaitan in the second round will be key to determine who finishes top of the pile at the end of the season. And if goal difference is required to determine league winners, then a record haul from Pereira & Bala is needed, which does not look unlikely at the moment.

    A Lion's hiccup

Go Leo's title charge suffered a setback after they went down 1-0 at fourth placed Jalak Lenteng. The host lost 3 players through injuries but the visitors were unable to capitalize.

With the result, Go Leo drop to second, a point behind Xaitan with a potential title decider on the horizons.

Go Leo was unable to create enough chances to score and playmaker Quenti Anani had a very quiet game. Jalak Lenteng set themselves up with a 3-man midfield which overwhelmed the visitor's midfield duo of Anani & Muhammed Ozen.

The Boss was clearly disappointed with the result but believed the team still has what it takes to march towards the title.

"We have lost just twice this season so far, and both have came against the same opposition. Except for last season, we have not had a good run of games against Jalak Lenteng and they have proven to be a bogey team."

"We have to bounce back immediately and I want the lads to do it in style. We have a home fixture coming up so that will be an advantage to us."
