With a lot of these posts, I see the fast trainer is tied to their pay/salary. If you have a player that you really like, can you renegotiate their contract and make them a fast trainer?

NO LOL
The idea is that in levels between 1-near 20, you can see in the market who is a fast trainer looking his wage/value, because when you train a player, the Value is increased but the wage, don't. So Value = more times the Wage = better trainer.
Contract of a player is expired every 3 years, 2 to 3 seasons no possible to renegotiate to... in this case if the rule is Good trainer = Value = Wage xMore times, you should decrease he wage to create more differance, not increase xD
That's the 1st, the 2nd is that usually, high Value = good trainer... ..one have to compare...
Well... I've work to do yet... don't finished the list but is saved in the O.M.A. Group... or link that posted Qambu Yaasi

Still it's not clarified if the dominant thing for a faster trainer is the wage or the value? Also at level 5 I don't get players that worth more than 7m more or less in the transfer market... Also is there a point in buying an expensive 3* player?
"Human relationships didn't work anyhow. Only the first two weeks had any zing, then the participants lost their interest. Masks dropped away and real people began to appear: cranks, imbeciles, the demented, the vengeful, sadists, killers. Modern society had created its own kind and they feasted on each other. It was a duel to the death...in a cesspool."
You can generate a profit for buying young players, train and play for two seasons and sell him at 3rd year. As a player gain exp faster at a lower quality so buying young 3* isn't too bad if one only cost a token or two, and is great for subs if you play him rarely.
That is if you actually able to sell them... in my server at my level I'm unable to sell players for a long time. AI spawns being the major cultprit I believe, very few buy regular players nowadays.
On the other hand, old players usually generate a net loss but they perform better than young players with the same quality. So it's a decent choice if you are flooded with money anyway.
Check my guide. I have a new post with my fast trainers this season (lv5), from 9,2 - 10,5 Millions.

With 15pts is considering more like a 3* than a 4* .i bought a 20y old 4-star player (15 pts) in lvl1 for like 550k
in lv1, as you're saying, you can find some good trainers and in many cases as 3* free agents.
If their VALUE is 500-1' M and their wages are 2-4' K they are good trainers and you can build your team with them.
The only problem is that having a team with 3-4* players can go for much. So, one strategy is to find as many you can (as free agents, in some "quite" hours), tanking for a season in lv1 and go for trophies next season.
check this post, I have some examples

exactly, 3* player has 14q , so a 15q gaining sp more like as 3* than a 4* 18-19q.15 pts = weakest 4 star player in lvl 1 ^^
the next star (from 3* to 4* or 4* to 5*) it's not acting like a switch.
The drop in gaining is coming gradually.
