September 11 Match Report - Cup Quarter-finals, 2nd leg
Aurora Allstars 2 - 0 Sporting FC (3-0 agg)
After a very tense 1-0 away win in the first leg of this tie, a tightly-fought rematch was always to be expected. Despite putting on an enormous amount of early pressure, the Allstars' attacking force were unable to break through the mainly 5-6* defensive line on the Sporting FC side. Neither team was able to secure a meaningful breakthrough in the first half, although the run of play was definitely in the Allstars' favour, with 9 solid chances to Sporting FC's 4.
The second half saw more activity, with substitutions to 2 of the Allstars' own defensive line, in an attempt to stave off the growing threat from counterattacks. A fine long range shot from Huitron put the Allstars 2-0 up on aggregate, shortly after which the Allstars' manager was called away from the pitch on urgent family business. Although it was a pleasure to see that we had confirmed our win between then and the end of the match with another effort from our star player, Rocha, there was one bad note to the game - the injury of the newly-arrived Dundarogolu, who will now be out of action for the next few matches.
With Sporting FC defeated, we are now the highest quality team left in this season's cup, so hopes are high among the fans for another trophy to be added to the cabinet!
(Edit: I'm kind of new at reports, so they'll hopefully get better )

2-0 loss with a free kick on minute 2 and a long shoot at minute 47, quite normal. We had possession and shoots but not any else. Dxactly like last season's results.
September 11 Match Report - League Match #16
Enevald FC (15.2) 1 - 5 Aurora Allstars (23.4)
Following swiftly on the heels of the Cup game, this match was anticipated as an opportunity to get some of the less-skilled members of the Allstars team some valuable match time, and a chance for some of the star players to take a break.
This approach led to a very quiet first half, with a number of chances for both sides. Despite higher possession, the Allstars were unable to stop a stunning 30-metre shot from Enevald FC during the 12th minute. The Allstars persisted with their 4-3N-1-2 formation, but were forced to change 2 players during the 38th minute, as the initial team were unable to make any headway against a stubborn Enevald defence. Swiftly following this, a scrappy penalty-area exchange led to a deflected shot from Rocha just beating the Enevald goalkeeper, to bring us into half-time at 1-1.
With the Allstars' team back at full strength following the earlier substitutions, the start to the second half was a more accurate reflection of the teams' quality levels. The Enevald defence was unable to stand up to the speed and long-range ability of the Allstars' attack, with the newly-acquired Theodosiou taking two goals, the veteran defender Hardy taking one, and the final nail in the 5-1 victory fell to the man of the match de Souza Lacerda.
This result was largely to be expected, although some early complacency following the Cup tie did place pressure on the first team, and some of the players could not be rested as much as desired. However, our commanding position at the top of the league is maintained, and with no yellow cards or injuries, the campaign continues well.
