when you sell a player you can select an amount between the 70% and 90% of the real value of the player.
That's what you can select, at the end the player can be sold perfectly for the double depending of the rounds in the bidding.

then he stays for 7 days before he goes away, if I don't make space in the team for him and sign a contract.

There not to bad bud!, any 18 year old with a special ability is likely to sell high!, he may not have gone that time but I bet he went the next time he was on!, alot can depend what tome of day he was listed!.
