I am not sure how much the underlying ability (crossing only probably in this case) really matters and its a bit of a mystery as far as I understand how the special ability exactly works.

Nordeus has previously stated that a player with special ability gets 40-50 skill-points more. If that is still the case, what exactly does it mean? Is a skill-point in this case 4%? Is a skill point in this instance one more ability point?

For example, for a level 1 player, the later would mean that a player that is very poor at crossing the ball -- lets say that he has 50%, in other words the ability 12.5 -- will instead have the ability 12.5+40=52.5 or (52.5/25) 210%. And I mean, at least at the early levels, the set-pieces specialists are extremely good compared to to the other players when taking corners or free-kicks. On one of my accounts that are at lvl 2, my striker shoots the ball at almost 200% and that account does not have a FK specialist in its top 11, but he is not even remotely as good as a FK specialist with much lower shooting ability that I have on the bench at taking FKs.

If this is the case, it would mean that the Special Ability is worth more at lower levels than at higher levels. Like a player at the level where 160 in ability is worth 100%, would only get 25% better with an ability of 40 SPs. I am not at all sure that this is the case. Its also entirely possible that SPs instead in this case represents %, and that a player with a SA always get 40-50 x 4% better in the relevant areas. Meaning that a player with 50% in crossings would be a 250% crossing player when taking corners.

Or its possible that the SP works in some entirely different way, that it is carved out or something.

What is your guys experience, does it matter much if a player with a SA is really good in the underlying ability?
Special abilities such as freekick & cornerkick is good but if the player is weaker, then it's not. Make your freekick specialist a captain. He will score more. With various skills, they have better scoring and control. It's a big difference with a player with no skill.
