I haven't had great luck in training so far. Read some of the posts that say they have a training schedule, but they seem to be pretty complicated. Any easy training ideas?

Looking for "instant win" button? How to learn Japanese studying for 30 seconds once a week? TL;DR? =]
Okay, here is your "no-brain-magic-pill":
Slalom Dribble for M* and AM*;
Long Run, for DL and DR;
Gym for DC and DMC;
Pass, Go and Shoot for ST;
One-on-one finishing and Hold the line for GK.
It wasn't our day.
Yep, instant win! Will try your suggestions. Have been throwing multiple trainings sets out there to see what works best
You won't see what works best, it's impossible. There is no criteria to do so, especially after just a few training sessions -- the difference will be slim to nothing. Drills of the same level improve the player's quality at the same rate, by the way.
To make a difference, you have to train players for a season, más o menos, with the same training routine again and again, and maybe after that you will have a feeling that you are doing something right. Or not.
That feeling most likely will be wrong anyway xD There are too many additional unknown factors in this game. It is a question of believing, not knowing. Welcome to Top Eleven.

Sounds like real life. Just keep trying til you get it right. I have a lower rated player who consistently outplays other players and gets more training points. Sold some of the others to raise cash but won’t sell him
By "lower rated player" you mean "lower quality player"? If he performs good, keep him.
By the way, I got this beautiful young man from the Academy today:
Quality 94, value 96. This guy is very promising.
It wasn't our day.
How do you know if he is promising or not? Are not all players from academy fast trainers?
