I m playing 4-2DMCs-AML-AMC-AMR-ST and from what i ve seen my ST acts as a playmaker to create spaces for the 3 guys behind him, also sometimes my Wingers drop in midfield for some reasons i don t know, although i tell them to stay up top.
    I m still around, LOL!

I have rarely attended games of any of my teams over the last 6-8 seasons simply because I think ,my opinion ,my teams do better without me watching. How much this is true/untrue I dont know but its the way I do things. Each manager do their own thing and be happy doing it. I will say this though ,when I was watching games my teams had a terrible record against the other top teams ,maybe win 1 out of 3 and now I would win 3 out of 4. Still its not proof of anything really.

For my case since 3 seasons, neither of the above.
The picture below shows the statistics of most of my players at the end of last season.

The ST at the top of that list has been the top scorer in my team for 3 seasons in a row playing alongside wingers most of the time, and also he has been among the top assisters in two of the three seasons. I bought him from the daily recommendations list. He came as a fast trainer and with penalty taker special ability. Even in associations, he scored a lot, on some occasions as much as 3-4 goals in the same match. But, this might be an exceptional case. Nik's comment is also based on facts of the past (but exaggerated with the 'STs don't score' as STs still scored but not to the level of expectations) and I myself went through periods where STs were not scoring enough goals (not as expected) way back, and SuperDunk also is not wrong as such as the formation used also is a factor (but for the case in this thread, which is 4-1-2-1-2, STs should be scoring lots of goals else something is wrong which could be the players themselves, the team, tactics and so on).

People also need to take things with a grain of salt and also consider the possibility of biased statistics and biased views or comments. For example, if someone played with a 5-star or 6-star ST and a near 7-star AML and AMR, and on top set the AML and AMR to take free-kicks, penalties, but then later show and say STs do not score goals, do nothing, are comestic and so on, is more like misleading.

I think that in many cases, it might be about the players themselves (hidden factors) and what the system has chosen to be the key player(s) in the team and also the quality of the players, which happens that in many teams the wingers are of higher quality but also got picked as the key players. But then, if having significant higher quality, it is evident that the wingers will score more than the ST, especially if they are set to take free-kicks and penalties.

but @Tactician if you use your ST for free-kicks and penalties, those are extra goals.
I have played years with 4-5-1 V or AML/C/R+ ST and never my ST scored more goals than my AMs.
It can't be all my STs being useless.

There must be reasons why all never scored more goals than your wingers. But, some must have still scored a lot of goals and also maybe assisted decently too - definitely not useless players or cosmetic position. There might have been a few flop ones too (those what would rarely score and will mostly get a 7 or an 8 in ratings).

My ST was not a free-kick specialist. I mentioned above that he came with the penalty taker special ability. I did use him to take free-kicks from one side and the AMR/ST/AML took free kicks from the other side. He scored a lot of goals from open play - definitely not those STs I had in the past that were more or less absent in open play compared to wingers.

Like I said, it might be an exceptional case for mine, maybe due to several things (ST having higher quality than the wingers, ST was assigned to be a key player in my team by the system, good hidden factors, and so on). Me too I have been through that ****ty ST thing in the past - ST not scoring as expected and the wingers that stealed all the show, but for those past 3 seasons, that ST above was the main man of the show and the two wingers too of course. He has been top scorer for the team since the season he was bought. On his debut, which was an association match, he scored all 4 goals for my side if I am not mistaken. There have been some matches that he was like average like getting a 6-7 rating but this happens for other players too. Even in that season where my team was put in a tough league which had active and high quality opponents where my team came out 2nd in the end, that ST still made it 1st in the top scorer chart for that league.

The main formations I used were 451V, 4-1-3 (2MC, MR)-1(AML)-1 and Butterfly. On some rare occassions, I used other formations, including those that had no attacking wingers. One thing I noticed is that the other two players that could play as ST, which are the two wingers, did not perform to the same level when they played as ST compared to main ST. So, it could be player related (hidden factors).

The Inzaghi in your team was far from useless. He still performed when you played him as ST. One thing is that you mostly played versus much weaker teams which resulted in odds things happening and many of your goals coming from free-kicks, else maybe he would have scored more from open play as a ST.

But I must say from experience of the past (way back, not recently) that it seemed that the game favored attacking wingers (in some period, also AMC) for many things such as top rated, top scorer and top assister.

The point of my post was to show that a ST can still score goals - a lot of them - and also even when playing besides attacking wingers in the same team (so not neccessarily formation related), and a ST can be the star or among the star players in the team. Why many failed, ask Nordeus.

I don't mean to have the free-kick sa but to use him as a taker, something you do in half of the chances.
I also use Inzaghi as a f-k taker and usually as a AML.
If I wouldn't use him for f-k , playing as ST, he wouldn't have maybe half of his goals.
Top Eleven game programming promotes the f-k.
In any game where the score is above 3-0, at least one goal is coming for f-k.
    * something that is not happening in real football. There, the corner kicks create more goals.

I tend to lose far more matches and score far less goals when I attend a match... Even lose to far weaker teams as well, and get blown out from teams that are even competition... Have seen this happen time and again!!! There’s no benefit in attending a match of your own!!!
