I guess I am not sure if I should go for it or completely change players to defend all in my half with the good stat striker in his first game just in their half, just for this game, then revert back to my usual system for others of my level.
Sorry, did you say your formation is like this?

---------ST---------
-AML-----------AMR-
------MC--MC-------
--------DMC--------
-DL----DC-DC----DR-

This is called the 4-5-1 V

If this is the case, then it is a very versatile formation

This formation should do well vs 3-4-3. 4-4-2 is also a very good formation vs 3-4-3.

4-3N-2-1 is the known counter for 3-4-3

---------ST---------
-AML-----------AMR-
-----MC-MC-MC-----
---------------------
-DL----DC-DC----DR-

but the 4-5-1V should do as well.

The key is to have as many or one more midfielder than your opponent. You should get more possession and more scoring chances in most situations like this. I know you can have tons of possession and still lose, I just have to look at Liverpool's season this year to see that in real life. But in this game, I find it is the small things that make the difference. Tactics can make or break a formation.
