Help for a new beeee and hello to forum :)

Hi my first post here, I am in my first season and I am in 2nd place at the moment, the person who is in 1st who joined at the same time, he has a team that has won every game, the player stats are are far advanced as anyone else in league, maybe token buying, maybe sat at pc all day. Anyway I am playing them tonight and know what ever I do I will get hammered, so my question is should I change my formation and team that has done pretty well and go completely hard defensive ? I would then hope to scrape a draw and and keep the peeps behind me at bay. Or should I play the way that has has done well so far.

I realize this is a waiting game and want to qualify for CL to gain experience and revenue etc.

Thanks for reading and the last week or so is starting to be an obsession lol.

Show a screen shot of your opponents team and one of yours and we can help guide you.

Hi thanks my print screen isnt working ...doh he plays 3-4-3 while I have played 442 but with the midfield and one striker in a diamond, so the middle midfield man is in my half just in front of defenders, then two midfield each side but in opposition half, then two attacking wings high up the pitch with striker in the middle at top. so its like a four 4321 line up but to accommodate players I use the 442 system....As I say his players are stat wise muchmuch better although I have just bought a striker 24 yrs old at a good price with good stat like his as mine are old and retiring soon, and usually its the midfield that score.

I guess I am not sure if I should go for it or completely change players to defend all in my half with the good stat striker in his first game just in their half, just for this game, then revert back to my usual system for others of my level.

Sorry, did you say your formation is like this?

    ---------ST---------
    -AML-----------AMR-
    ------MC--MC-------
    --------DMC--------
    -DL----DC-DC----DR-

This is called the 4-5-1 V

If this is the case, then it is a very versatile formation

This formation should do well vs 3-4-3. 4-4-2 is also a very good formation vs 3-4-3.

4-3N-2-1 is the known counter for 3-4-3

    ---------ST---------
    -AML-----------AMR-
    -----MC-MC-MC-----
    ---------------------
    -DL----DC-DC----DR-

but the 4-5-1V should do as well.

The key is to have as many or one more midfielder than your opponent. You should get more possession and more scoring chances in most situations like this. I know you can have tons of possession and still lose, I just have to look at Liverpool's season this year to see that in real life. But in this game, I find it is the small things that make the difference. Tactics can make or break a formation. Read the FAQ on the sticky at the top of the forum and check out the tactics and what should work best for you.

Yes my formation is the the 4 5 1 then, its just under the 442 tab I just rearranged the players, so when you look at my squad it says 442 yet it looks like the the 451, anyway thanks for help and will have a look at tactics...cheers, although I am swaying to stick to my formation now lol.

red arrows on AML/AMR/DL/DR, dont forget

I prefer 3N-1-4-2 vs 4-4-2 classic. With AML/ML and AMR/MR, it turns into 3-5-2 V, which is very offensive and gives a lot of midfield possession if you need to score some goals in a hurry. otherwise 4-1-4-1 is the same, turns in to 4-5-1 V.

Others will swear by 4-1-2-1-2, narrow diamond, but i find that it is not as good as 3N-1-4-2 or 4-3N-2W-1.

ok cheers will do the arrows, what about orders, last match I had hard attacking, but then changed to normal when 4-1 up but as I say the team tonight is top marks on all really, so they are going to score and as i say lost no matches since he joined.

I am almost ALWAYS set to attacking. I dont sit back and defend as I want to control play and have possession, which is boss.
I am almost ALWAYS set to whole pitch as I dont like to give up possession. if set to OWN HALF, you give up possession until they come into your half, so I prefer to hit them in their own half and intercept passes.

Passing style depends on your formation and opponent. With 4-5-1V, it is almost always down the flanks, mixed, unless they are better than you and you might use long pass to drop them to your AML/AMR.

I use HARD tackle when playing superior opponents or opponents with no Freekick specialist as i do believe it gives you better chance to injure the other players or you will tackle more often to get more possession...either way, I like it.

If you put FORCE COUNTERATTACKS, you will give up possession like pressing in your OWN HALF, I do believe. As I am all about possession, it behooves me to use this option, which should only be used when the opponent has no DMC/DMR/DML, for the most part.

    Class dismissed.
