Playing two defenders will definitely lose you 30% possession, giving your opponent 80/20 advantage.
I saw and changed again the format back again with 3 DC's 1DML and 1 DMR 2 MC AML and AMR and finaly the striker.
Stopped changing team now. Drove me nuts this morning.

I'm confused with your comments on midfielders. Are you saying "at least 3 midfielders (DM*, M*, AM*) one of which has to be in the middle row (MC, ML or MR)"?

No, no. Not asking for ALL illegal formations, just examples that don't fit the (definitely) known criteria. So no need to show a formation with only 2 defensemen or no strikers, because we already know why those are illegal.
The new statement for defenders is fine, I guess. I think we need at least one in the M row (ML/MC/MR), but at least 3 midfielders (yellow players).

And about the posting illegal formations, understood.

good thread. I just beat a better team in the CL semifinal. He had only 20% possession because he had no wingers. I see this alot with opponents and friends. I asked support point blank to define all illegal formations and support wouldnt. I seem to have been penalized for having more than six in the Defender plus DM category but am not sure. overly defensive formations and irregular defensive formations seem to be a problem.

Just to confirm, playing 1xMC only is NOT an illegal formation. This morning I played a guy in the League that selected only 1xMC (3xAMs), I countered with only 1xMC & 2xDCMs. Possession was about 60-40 my way. When I was up 3-0 not long after half time (about 52nd min) I retreated my AMR & AML to MR & ML, & possession barely changed, finished 62-38. If playing 1xMC was illegal, then possession would have gone far more strongly to me during the second half.

So any 3 yellow players on the field would make up a legal formation.

    No regrets

I clinched my league today (!!) so I can do some testing the next three days.

I want to test playing with no goalie - if, say, pulling your goalie forward in the 85th minute leads to a possession penalty for illegal formation, then that would be a bug, aye?

Also missed the obvious that 5-2-3 is the only possible formation with less than three midfielders.

Have you tried it with noone in the middle row? Meaning no M(L/C/R), maybe play with an AML, AMR and DMC, I believe that would be illegal.

I'll give that a try in the next day or so, maybe just for the first half play with 2xDCMs & 2or3xACMs. I'm 10pts clear in my League with only 3 games left so those final 3 games are of no consequence. I'll post & let you know what happens.
