Definitive Illegal Formation Rules

One point that maybe could be worth mentioning and adding to the frist post in the topic is...

Anyone thats unsure whats illegal formation or not should test it in a friendly against a known legal formation such as 4-4-2 and if they only get 20% possession with the formation in question then the formation is illegal.

In this first picture, I am the team on the left and the possession was never 80% in my favour. The formation that I used is legal as I have used it many times before.




In the second picture, the same formation again.. This time a different team was playing against it and yet again no 20% possession penalty.

Did you have any players out of position? It might have caused the problem

Right. At the end of last season i was able to test some formations, and revised the rule accordingly.
You do need three midfielders (yellow dots), and at least one of them has to be a (DML, DMC, DMR, ML, MC or MR) So the old rule was close, but instead of needing an M*, you need an M* OR a DM*. Hope that's clear.

Did you watch the match? Is Dennis GK an actual GK? How do you KNOW he didn't change formation? (edit: he DID change formation. This is STILL illegal)

No. it's still illegal. Not going to bother posting screenshots.

He most certainly did. This only shows the starting formations. You can't use this type of post match inspection to make any kind of determination about the legality of a formation.

You must be watching the match to determine the legality of a formation - or try it yourself.

due to injuries i'm short on dc's, so if i use a dl or dr as a dc will this count as an illegal formation because the dl/r are playing out of position

No. I've observed quicker morale and energy drop playing one slot out of position like that, but that's all. I played an MC at AMC for a full season and he led the league in goals and assists.
