I've been playing 4-4-2 all season with success (im 2nd in the league) but i have a crunch match tomorrow against my only rival for finishing 2nd who play a narrow diamond 4-1-2-1-2 obviously to some effect...im going to do something that i haven't done yet this term, change my formation to counter his, because it's away and ill more than likely miss it...im going to go with a 4-1-4-1 in the hope that i at least get a draw...am i correct in doing this???...

Just used the formation you suggested in this chart to counter my opponent's and i got the draw that has secured me 2nd in the league! :)...

Played him using a 4 - 1 - 2 MC, - 2 AMR/AML - 1.
Won Cup Match 3-0 on the road vs. Lvl 4 player. I am Lvl 3 player. His players averaged 27.1 quality, mine averaged 24.8 quality, before the match.
I did see 4 of his players played out of position. A AMC played DMC, a ST played DC, a MC played DC, and a ST played AMC.
He had only 1 player who played DC, and no DMCs on the roster.

Focusing anything but flanks in any V-style formation is always a losing plan. Even if he has a strong DL & DR your better off sticking with the flanks if you use a v-formation. A very effective counter to 4-4-2 flat is 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamons: focus through the middle. force counter-attack tactics normally work well (but not always).Quote:

Hello. Today I face a strange 4-2DMC-3N-1 tactic. I am not really sure how to counter this.
when I played 4-5-1 V-Style I was always beaten by 4-3N-3, my friend also played 4-5-1 V-Style, and also loses with 4-3N-3, I think the counter formation for 4-5-1 V-Style is 4-3N-3Quote:

I had ~60% possession, fewer shots but still had 3:2 in the 89th minute (Home), trying to substitute players but the game's bugged so it takes 10 mins to make one. He scores the equaliser in the last minute and ended 3:3.. This is actually one of the better results I had vs 4-4-2 which is retarded.. Whatever I do and even when it seems I have a better tactic and more chances and over 60% possession, this broken formation destroys me..

Don't bother, the game is a bit of a mess right now..It was good till the past season or two, now they are using randomness as 80% of the result outcome factor..Just so they could get more money as people are frustrated with the results so they might try buying tokens.
Cannot win against 4-3N-3!
