Finals is a matter of lottery at times and result of 1-goal difference game can just be about luck, or lack of. So keep pride in how you have been playing and in winning nearly everything.

Well, just from an analytical point from the stats (which I always do after a draw or rare loss, or even a mightily close win that should have been a comfortable one), I feel there are a few points that would prompt a change at half-time, if ratio is similar at half-time:

    1) Your possession is some 30% more but with only 2 shots more while only 30% on target. That suggests either the formation isn’t ideal against the opponent (low # of shots vs possession advantage), or your main attackers are totally off form (ok-performance should be at least 40%-45% on target). At least 1 change of personnel or try reshuffle of formation should be tried at the half-time interval.

    2) Pass completion at 90% is way too high for a tight game for winning purposes, especially in a game when our shot on target % is low. Regardless of opponents’ quality, creating chances via possession would just mean missing chances after chances by off-form attackers via passing and crossing with our quality advantage.

With own painful experience, it is way better to switch to a defensive formation and order even if it doesn’t make sense against a weaker opponent, play long (or at least mixed if long balls result in opponents’ counter easily) and just rely on individual quality to take that 1 chance via our counter or building from the back by midfielders and even wide defenders even if it means passing rate dropping to 80%.

Well, as we know very well, there would still be some 1-2 troll matches per season despite our best efforts. Sucks big time if it happens in finals. We move on and try even better next season.

Yea mate. I should have checked with you. Remember i told you in private message the cup opponent would put up a fight. I really aint sure if it was a troll result or was it my mistake. I am leaning more towards a mistake. I did not sub early enough or i made a bad sub or i had the wrong tactics. It could have been anything. Anyway my sub performed worse than my starter. Subbed out a 5.3 to get a 4.8 lol.

My opponents quality was once again rubbish but as usual its fake quality. Very high whites and really low greys so i knew it would be tough. He doesnt manipulate and he doesnt have to as his quality is already low because of low grey skills.

Its over and i am feeling a little demoralised. Feel like taking a break from the game.

Don’t be too hard on yourself mate. There are always some top managers who are as good, if not even better, as us who can outperform in a 1-match final (a 2-legged tie then we could set up for a perfect counter for the 2nd leg, but a 1-off could be quite difficult when we haven’t got the rub of the green).

Assuming drills being equally-levelled or similar, I tend to train subs in an ‘opposite’ dimension to hopefully make a difference on impactful substitution.
Eg. If my main AM is specialised in shooting & finishing and ST on speed, then my corresponding sub of that 2 positions would be having training mainly on crossing/passing and header and positioning - it is obvious that the subs’ best stat may not even match the worst of first team’s, but for me those subs have to be about trying to shuffle as much of a disadvantaged preset of conditions in certain matches where we ‘should’ loss (really sucks - but I do believe I have won too many matches when on paper I shouldn’t ) as hopefully shifting the balance in my favour when first team’s best strengths are being nullified.

With typically high whites, what I would do is pack that area with +1 player or +1.5 player (eg. Opponents 4-4-2 with high whites’ STs, then I would play a 3-1-4-1-1 with a flat and tight DL-DC-DR plus a DMC pulled as close to own goal as possible), pull a bit backward towards own goal and on back-arrow, and then apply defensive bonus throughout, then hopefully by 60th min not losing by more than 1 goal and shift to 3-4-1-2 high-pressing & hard tackling to win or draw with better conditions). My focus is on ‘maximising’ our defenders’ whites with defensive bonus plus squeezing all space of attackers with the number of defenders + DMC(s).

Definitely get how you feel as I had been through that exact feeling of losing just a single trophy after all those grand slams seasons after seasons. You will be feeling a lot better when you get all those trophies back by end of next season. Hehe!
