Today in the Champions league, the boys picked up a win. I have no idea how they won, since the team had no business winning this match.
At kickoff, all things looked fine and dandy, as I just switched to a 3w-5-2V against his 4-5-1V. But at the 13th minute, disaster struck w/ Star ST S. Blatter getting injured. Mr. Blatter had scored 60 goals in 40 matches this season. So, the boys are without the services of the prolific goal-scorer facing a 5 time champions league winning token buyer starting 7 6* players and three 7* players. To make matters worse, my connection was flaky; I could watch the match and sub, but couldn't see what formations each team was running. So down my horse, iffy connection, I took a gamble, switching to 4-3n-1-2, since I'd rather play that his 4-5-1V instead of keeping a 3w-5-2V and him changing to 4-4-2c. I logged off, then back on my mobile and could see the formations now, but my sub ST Cusba (who replaced Blatter) picked up a 45th minute injury. Simoni managed to convert off the set-piece resulting from the foul which injured Cusba, for a 1-0 lead.
Halftime: 1-0 lead, but all three subs used, and my opponent hadn't subbed yet. Formations were 4-5-1 V against my 4-1-2-1-2 after subbing Cusba out Simoni added a 2nd, and my opposition, then changed to 4-2-3w-1. So basically, we played 50 minutes in narrow formations against a 4-5-1V but managed to outscore an opposing token buyer 2-0, despite not having my best player on the pitch.
So um, yea; based upon tactics should have lost today, but the boys managed to overcome the adversity and persevere with a gutcheck performance. But a clean sheet at home creates a sizable advantage for the away leg (assuming the boys can score 1) and extends our CL KO round unbeaten streak to 42 (38-4-0).
