I don't see what you problem is with having conceded only 1 goal. I have noticed that you need to change how your team operates every once in a while since it seems that the longer I play in a particular way, the more opponent teams seem to be able to counter it. After changing things up, they at first still see to try to counter the previous way before readapting for the new changes. I don't know if it is a thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a thing.
Yes, most smart tacticians would check all our recently used formations to second guess what we could use and formulate a few possible counters to the ones that we used and could repeat using against their teams. Personally, against an opposition which poses a threat, I will definitely check on formations used in all available matches with his team in the same draw and pick a squad which can counter as many formation as they have used and change to the planned counter formation(s) when they revert to any.
Therefore, I also tend to use different formations to handle some similar formations against different oppositions in any draw, so the variety itself alone means opposition would find it extremely difficult to guess what I would use. The most ideal scenario is we can set the same formation with who our opposition just beat in the last round, so it would be a huge pull for him to instinctively stick with his last formation used for us to get a perfect counter on him with a bit more confidence.
Winning is a form of art. Consistently winning is a show-hand of skills and luck.
Not bad...
