Not in my opinion, I have almost only single position players. Few games ago my DL was suspended, I played a DC as the DL for a game, it didn't really make a difference.

I usually do it after I have trained their base stats for quit a bit, this is for new signings. I usually don't assign a new position for them to train up to till at least after like 10 training...
