I think you misunderstand what I am doing/saying. I am sure it's my fault.
A 45 rated player is worth less, not more in the transfer market that a 44 rated player. Do we have to debate this, or is this a given?
Therefore I am training his MC not because I want him to have MC, but because I don't want him to progress from 44.9 to 45. I am not putting any green packs into him, but when he is at 99%, I train him. And when he plays as a sub, he trains whether I want him to or not. In the web app you guys would have the cones accumulating on the right hand side to decide later what to do with them. In the phone app skill points are auto assigned. If I don't have him train a role or a SA (and he already has a SA), the next skill point puts him over the top and he becomes 45.
Now, if I am keeping him long term, there is absolutely nothing wrong with his becoming 45, 46, 47, whatever. Who knows, he might make it to 49 and become marketable again.
This is why I am asking (myself, mostly) what his role and prospects on the team are. And inviting you to chime in on whether my strategy of training him for an unnecessary role to curb his rating growth is crazy.
Now, this morning I got an offer on him. The buyer has since upped it to above his market value + 2T. I countered at 3T, but will probably take the current offer. That's what a 44 rated player is worth on the market. A 45 - I think not.
