Would you guys hold off your fast trainer at 44.9 raiting by assigning him a (useless, I agree) new position to train? Because that's what I'm doing. If he didn't have an SA, I wouldn have assigned an SA to train, but he does.

I'm struggling with defining his role on the team.

Is he a backup to his star buddy? Then I should let him train and progress as much as possible.

Is he a contender for the starting role? Unlikely, as he is 10 points lower than my highest available transfer player.

Is he an investment? Not a very great one. I bought him last season when he was around 9 mil, and he immediately dropped 1 mil of value when he added a year.

Is he one of my lowbies whom I will carry in order to affect my avQ and cup draw? Perhaps, but I'm not crazy about the whole concept and have not decided if I'm going to follow it.

44.9 rating, with 8 million value.
On a scale of fast training from 1-10, his training speed is 6.5 only.
I dont think training him will benefit much. Just let him develop naturally, dont rush into training SA or new role, use them for physical/mental and attack.
This way you will have a better player over time, and also a slightly higher amount of cash when you sell him at the end of the season.

extra positions are many times more useful than sa, special if you want to keep a small roster and do rotation.
But everything depending from how wealthy is the team.

I think special abilities come out only in roles a player can adapt to.
You may tell, free kick specialists can always strike a free kick.
But if wrong roles give you a possession penalty, you risk to have no weapons for you and concede all to opponent. One lower player in its role does not strongly reduce team performance, a strong player in wrong position makes disasters.So...

I think you misunderstand what I am doing/saying. I am sure it's my fault.

A 45 rated player is worth less, not more in the transfer market that a 44 rated player. Do we have to debate this, or is this a given?

Therefore I am training his MC not because I want him to have MC, but because I don't want him to progress from 44.9 to 45. I am not putting any green packs into him, but when he is at 99%, I train him. And when he plays as a sub, he trains whether I want him to or not. In the web app you guys would have the cones accumulating on the right hand side to decide later what to do with them. In the phone app skill points are auto assigned. If I don't have him train a role or a SA (and he already has a SA), the next skill point puts him over the top and he becomes 45.

Now, if I am keeping him long term, there is absolutely nothing wrong with his becoming 45, 46, 47, whatever. Who knows, he might make it to 49 and become marketable again.

This is why I am asking (myself, mostly) what his role and prospects on the team are. And inviting you to chime in on whether my strategy of training him for an unnecessary role to curb his rating growth is crazy.

Now, this morning I got an offer on him. The buyer has since upped it to above his market value + 2T. I countered at 3T, but will probably take the current offer. That's what a 44 rated player is worth on the market. A 45 - I think not.

LOL, i've got it. You want to sell the player to get tokens. Ok then 44 is better than 45
In this case, train him a SA, more people will be interested if he has 44 rating and a SA.
But eventually you will still sell him for 2 token offer, nothing to debate anymore
