    I do not watch Football so I am not familiar with football phrases and neither my english is good but I find this commentary weird...

    It's ok English. But only just. Changes "approaches" to "reaches" & it'd be better.

    You're right. Its bad.

    It should be "Player X is almost 20 m from goal and....shoots!"...........IMO
